Hi folks, just lost my cocker spaniel from my front garden 2 weeks ago, dont hold out much hope of getting him back at this stage, tried all the dog homes, vets etc, he,s micro chipped so ithought i would get him back if somebody had just found him wandering:( anyway i need a dog that can be trained to track wounded deer as well as hunt pheasants etc, was thinking of a chocolate lab but heard a few bad reports on them, i would love to hear some advice on which dog to go for:confused: thanks

sorry to hear about the loss of your dog
there were on about chipping pets on tv3 the other day
and the vet was saying that even though the animals are chipped
a lot of the time the chips arent registered on the database
so its work checking that yours is just incase the vet forgot to do it
or he thought you might be doing it
the vet on the tv was saying about 70% of chipped pets arent registered i couldnt believe it was so high
its also a heads up foor anyone else with chipped pets to make sure there registered

It's the IKC who are suppose to record the chip number far as I know. Sorry to hear about your dog by the way
As for the OP's question I think a lab is a good choice although personally ild go for a black one and ild be VERY picky as it's getting harder to get a good one. Personally I'm a Weimaraner fan and the next one I get I'll be duel training it like yourself but a lot of lads reckon the german wire hair pointer is very good for duel purpose

I wouldn't like one myself. Heard a lot of people say they have a narkey side. First dog I had as a kid was a black lab so I have a very soft spot for them. Have a look at champdogs to see if there's any good litters out there at the moment
