Hi, My husband was made redundant and we are on jobseekers allowance, I am his dependant as are the children. I am looking to go back to college to get a degree in AIT. The college is a good hours drive from my home. I have looked online to see if I could get a grant but it seems this is done away with. Can anyone tell me what I might be entitled to. Do I have to pay the 2000 euro fee? Is there any help with petrol costs etc? I dont want to be stuck in this rut 4yrs down the line but if there is no help with the fees etc I dont see how I can afford to go to college. Id appreciate any info you might have on this. Thank you.

Talk to your CWO about BTEA
You can also apply for a fee grant - (same forms) to cover the 2000 fee

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Yes you may be eligible for BTEA as JB, it it likely that you will be eligible for HEA grant which will pay the €2k plus give you a maintenance look at www.studentfinance.ie for info on grants and citzen's info website for BTEA. Don't forget CAO deadline is the 1st FEb

    Good luck
