I was just wondering if anyone can confirm the rumours that the recruitment waiting lists will be extended passed the cut of date of 01/12/11 to save money. And if they don't does anyone have any idea when the next recruitment drive will be, I have heard March but these are of course just rumours and nothing has been set in stone.

I can't see them keeping the lists active as there is no cost benefit in doing so. The people on those lists will still be required to redo medicals and fitness tests. Interviews don't cost that much.

But they do take up a lot of time, there was between 5 and 10 interview boards going on at one time when i was interviewed which meant that there was at least 5 officers and 10 nco's being held up for over 2 weeks.

Held up yes, but still not costing anything extra. Plus take the fact that anyone left on the lists could have left the country, got a different job, have passed the upper age limit. Trying to administer that list could hold up the same number of people, for less of return.

Take the East they took up to at least no 120 on last years list. Why would they start recruiting in 2012 with no 121 of last years list (thats if no 121 is still open to the idea of enlisting), why not instead start from scratch and find out who is no 1 in 2012

Depending on what type of recruitment (GS or Cadets) it would be far more efficient IMO to just run with last years post interview panel. Why waste time interviewing duds. An email sent to next in list on panel wouldn't take much effort. Those who have left the country or anyone who does not respond is discounted then away ya go.

In terms of the cadets it would make a hell of a lot of sense just to use the existing panel from interviews. You would not need the cost or expense of running another testing group, group phase. Just take the lot that were called for interview. Run a medical + fitness maybe a final interview and a lot of resources will be saved.

Well as bigduffman stated anyone who has no interest in joining doesn't have to turn up to a medical etc. I find it a bit unfair that the east got to take in 120 off the list while the west and south only got 40 but I suppose that's life. For me it really is a catch-22, if they continue with list then I get in but if they start over again I have a better chance at being higher up on a new list due to the fact that I am familiar with the interview process and that I am a member of the RDF which I wasn't when I sat the first interview.

EDIT: It should also be known that a panel list for the guards has been extended and those people have been on the list for over 3 years. It was extended by the minister for justice Alan Shatter who is of course also minister for defence.

I can now officially confirm the 2011 recruitment list for the 4th western brigade is no longer active.

How can you "officially" confirm? Have you authority to do this? Is this an official forum for confirming any matters relating to the military?
Surely any such confirmation should be on the official military website from an authorised source?

My God you need to relax a little you're taking things a little too serious. I could go in to detail about how I know this but considering this isn't an appropriate source for confirming anything military I#ll just give Alan Shatter a call and have him address the nation tomorrow

Gooleybag is correct, I received an official e-mail yesterday stating the same.

The number of Recruits taken into each Bde came down to manpower needs across the Bde's. The East needed more bodies than the West or the South.

    Fairness doesn't come to it.
