How is the NCT due this month? It should have been NCT'd last year.

You can do the NCT up to 3 months early.
Ask the seller to put it through the NCT and if it passes, you'll but the next day, obviously if everything else is ok.

And as above, ive an 07 car here, and NCT was first due in 2011, so how did this car only get a 1 year cert last year?

whats the problem then?
Assuming you done the usual checks :

Visual (you or mechanic)
finance
crash
mechanical
service history (check the dealers that are stamped to confirm)
