    Hi All,

Am looking to replace a 12 yr old Baxi Gas boiler. I have 2 questions:
    1. What boiler make would you recommend?
    2. How much should a boiler replacementy cost?

    Thanks :)

    http://www.glendimplexboilers.com/dimplex-gas-boilers.html

these boilers give a full 5 year warrenty parts and labour

hard to give a quote over the net as don't know what your system is like
most people give out free quotes now so get at least three and compare like for like but make sure they stand over what they sell . if someone gives a quote for a particular boiler , ring the manufacturer and see if they are known or accredited to that brand . most manufacturers have lists of most people that install thier product

I would recommend, Viessmann, Ariston, Glow-worm. All come with a 5 year parts and labour warranty.

Re: price. As stated hard to say with out looking. Average would be from €1800 to €2200.

Make sure the system is flushed thoroughly prior to the install with something like Sentinal X400 and if you want to go the whole hog get it powerflushed.

And most importantly make sure they put INHIBITOR into it after it's finished.

The only issue I would have ith the glendimplex boiler is the passageway size of the heat exchanger, haven't seen anything on it, but at first glance it looks suspiciously like a megaflow type (small bore) yikes!

While this shouldn't be an issue, any scale/sludge (which shouldn't be there) will cause it a heart attack

Pretty much agree with JK, but Glow-worm? Have they improved?

glen dimplex boilers have the same bore (slightly bigger) than veissman boiler :)
I am veissmann registered so know both boilers .

I have found the dimplex a cracking boiler , but like all the installs I do , I insist on putting a magnaclean on even if I only get cost price on it , as I nearly know I won't be coming back to it untill it's due it's annual service.
years ago dimplex had a bad name but that's changed now .really big seller in the uk .
big fan of Worcester Bosch , beautiful boiler to install and set up

I bought an Ideal ICOS HE24 about 3.5 years ago. I got it in Heat Merchants for €1,100 including the flue. I'm not sure of the installation costs as they were part of an extension that I had built at the time.

The boiler runs 10 rads and the DHW with no problem via a 3 channel programmer. It has locked out once for some unknown reason but after a reset it's worked fine since.

They have improved quite a lot since Vallient took them over. And are offering a 5 year warranty, and you've got to love the rear flue option very handy.

As far as I can remember (now this is 2 years ago) the heat exchanger in the dimplex was made by Gianommi (i thinks that's how it's spelled) the same one that's in the Megaflow, if so it's not the same bore as the Viessmann.

Giannoni Isothermic HE, the same a can be found on models of Vaillant/Glow-worm, Baxi/Potterton, Ariston, Sime, Biasi, Alpha, Dimplex etc. veissmann manufacture there own but have to pay giannoni for the design and technology .

just cause they made by the same company ,each manufacturer can specify different bores and different amount of coils per kw output.
i think vallient manufactur there own now

Viessmann designed and manufactured and patened there own so im nearly sure the give Geonnomi nothing. They have been asked by other manufacturers to sell it but they won't.
The bore is 22mm flattened to a rectangle. Nearly sure of it.
Stephen Browne in Percision has all the info.

Giannoni (of France) Stainless Steel Heat Exchanger Patent Used by:
1997 - Heat Transfer in the Munchkin and later ModCon series
1999 –Viessmann in the Vitodens series
2005 - Lochinvar in the Knight series
2008 – Burham in the Alpine series

the patent belongs to giannoni ,but veissmann manufactur there own and pay for the use of the patent ,as stated previously.

veissmann hold patents on other heat exchangers ,but not this one .

so they can advertise that they make it in house because they do ,its german made but the technology belongs to giannoni.

matrix cylinder burner is the only patent veissman have on that boiler range .
grundfos pump and hydraulics and Honeywell gas valve

The Inox heat exchanger is designed and manufactured my viessmann in Germany.
If someone else owned the rights they wouldn't have designed it.
The Giannoni (i got it right:D) has three separate coils of stainless steel tube flattened and wound and then married together at the flow and return connections.

The Inox is made completely from sheet stainless steel and pre formed and seemed welded from flow to return so no marrying of pipes. The internal bore is also slightly larger.

True the pump is Grundfos but the hydrolic block was designed to Viessmann specs and the pcb is also made by viessmann.

The WB1A when it was released had some issues, but Viessmann being German redesigned the boiler and with in 2 years or so came out with the WB1B which fixed the issues and the boiler is the best I've worked on to be honest.
Also the Vitodens 200 is just top notch and I would gladly pay the extra for one.

I think we are going off topic here :(

    http://www.patentmaps.com/assignee/Giannoni_1.html

they pay for the patent as previously stated , they make them under license

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,526 ✭✭✭JohnnieK

I dont see anything on the link regarding this. It only say's Giannoni has patented it's heat exchanger.

The viessmann one is different. Why would they be saying they invented it if someone else did?

I'm waiting for some confirmation from Germany on this, should come through tomorrow hopefully.

Glen Dimplex has ceased the manufacture of condensing gas boilers with effect from April 2012 although it is anticipated that leading plumbing and heating merchants will have stocks available until about July 2012. Please be aware that all warranties in relation to previously installed Halstead and Dimplex Gas Boilers will continue to be valid provided that the annual service is still carried out. go to glen dimplex home page for details

Unfortunate for anyone with a Dimplex.

    Hi Lads,

I need a boiler for heating 5 zones (3 in a detached granny flat, 2 in the main house located in front of it) + 1 shared 300L hot water cylinder located in a detached boiler house between the two buildings.

I am thinking Veissmann 4 pipe system boiler and unvented cylinder.

I would also like intelligent stats in the 5 heating zones (opentherm) so that the temperature modulates and stays steady at all times.

Can anyone recommend a supplier, installer with good experience of modulating controls / digital stats that feed info back to the boiler in or near Cork City?

    Thanks,
    James.

Give precision a ring they will tell you who is good at fitting their boilers.

    Hello ,

I just bought a new house , its 1950's with an old boiler incorporated into a fake fireplace in the living room.
I got a plummer to quote for a new condensing boiler with controls to zone the upstairs/downstairs.
He will also flush the old system with cleanser.
He will need to do some pipe work as the new boiler will be in a different location in the house.
    His quote was 1900 euro.
Not sure if this is good or not??
