It is possible as you can work 20 hours per week during the school year without effecting your payment, but def tell the schemes section before you accept any money.

Yes you can. My wife is on BTEA and she has to have work placement for course and she gets paid. Sometimes more than 20 hours a week tho.

Gareth 2011: Is the placement full time? If so, does she get paid a full time wage? Does she get taxed on it?
    (sorry for all the questions!!)

Hi bronie, no the placement isn't full time at the moment. She is training to be a chef and you need the placement to go with the course. They say you need 2 days a week but if her employer needs her more than 2 days she does them. She has started work at 6am sometimes, then left for college at 8 and back into work at 6pm then finish at about 10.30. The college know she works more than 2 days most weeks but they don't stop it. The course she is on is an intensive 9 month course. She has 9 months of college then 3 months of work placement at the end of the 9 monbths (as well as throughout the course). The social told her if she can get a letter to say the 3 months work placement is an intergal part of the course she could still get the BTEA for those 3 months as she wont graduate untill the following sept when she gets the results.

    What course are you doing?

I'm doing a business degree. The placement is full time for a 4 months. I rang social welfare and citizens information, they both said they can't see why I shouldn't accept payment if its being offered! So long as it doesn't affect my course they can't see a problem with it!
