    :eek::eek::eek::eek:

FileSonic was way bigger than MegaUpload and now they're gone.

I flicked (briefly, admittedly) through the thread you linked to. Can I ask why discussion on file sharing is being banned? Just seems a bit odd.

Sharing copyright material is illegal, but file sharing has many uses and is completely legal. Just wondering if there's any reasoning behind the ban on discussion? Is this your personal view on it (as the mod of this forum) or is it a boards.ie directive? Just curious. I understand not posting up "lol you can watch films on ____.com anyway", but a ban on filesharing discussion in general seems an overreaction.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, I do find it strange that these sites are taking such a hammering lately. Is it due to their nature as being file sharers, or due to them not making an effort to delete copyrighted files?

I heard that the big issue that put Megaupload into trouble was that the owner made no attempt whatsoever to remove content that had been reported as copyrighted material.

Rpaidshare, for example, offer file sharing to anyone (so much so that I don't think you even need to be a member to upload?), however, they are also very proactive in making efforts to remove copyrighted material from their server. Would this mean that they are safe, or are they in the same kind of trouble, regardless?

Seems a very extreme case of guilty until proven innocent.

Discussion on the practice of file sharing itself isn't banned. Discussion on where to source those files, much of which has been cleaned off the linked thread, very much is and has been for a long, long time.

Oh okay. That makes more sense, alright. Just the way it was worded threw me a bit.

    Thanks for the clarification. :)

They were all quick to delete when requested.

I heard the big thing with MegaUpload was paying affiliate who's content was downloaded a lot which FileSonic definitely do (or did). I think FileSonic could even have invented the concept, that's what made them a big filelocker site so quickly.

    This is a complete bummer.

They're effectively shutting down, only difference between this and Megaupload is they are allowing users access files they own.

I've 8 months remaining on my subscription >.<

Just started a support ticket there looking for a partial refund but i'm not too optimistic!

    RAGING!
I think FileSonic could even have invented the concept.

I think rapidshare or hotfile invented the concept, but stopped it after lawsuits. Filesonic is only around since '08.

i wonder if this is a case of getting out while they still have a chance or if theyve been told to shut down like megaupload.

My guess is they're either planning on shutting down or else just putting a halt on things so they can liaise with the feds on how now to get busted..

Its a case of 'take the money and run'.

They'll wind down their operation, with sharing of links disabled there will be minimal activity on their network. Their bandwidth and server costs will be a tiny fraction of what it used to be.

But they still have all the money from subcriptions. Normally that money is intended to cover their huge server/bandwdith costs. So they're just going to take that money as a retirement package and call it a day. I doubt very much they'll be giving refunds for outstanding subscriptions, even though the service is now no longer 'as described' in the original contract.

Looks like fileserve have just followed suit and now only allow access to your personally uploaded files " FileServe can only be used to download and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally.
If this file belongs to you, please login to download it directly from your file manager" :(

What about refunds. I bloody just forked out for a year long subscription at the beginning of December.

Feck sake money down the drain again. Same thing happened with hotfile and rapidshare. I purchase a year long subscription and they go and f*ck everything up.

    Closed.

    FileServe

Deleting multiple files. Closed affiliate program.

    FJungle

    UpStation

(Owned by FileServe) Deleting multiple files. Testing out blocking some USA IP addresses.

    F-sonic

    VideoBB

What is the difference between file sharing and torrents sites? How come the latter are not closed down?

File sharing services such as Filesonic and Megaupload charge users for their use therefore are making a massive profit from the breaches of IP law.
