and the car nearly always conks out when I attempt to reverse.
This is the procedure I use:

    1) Before starting the car, I press in the clutch fully(until it wont go in anymore) and put the gear into neutral.
    2) Then, I turn on the ignition, press the clutch fully in again, the gear into reverse, and very slowly take my foot off the clutch.

Then it conks out!!! The same happens when i am in first gear! The car is new, so nothing wrong there. My brother told me to slowly remove my foot fully from the clutch, and then the car should go, but maybe I should keep my foot slightly down on the clutch?!

    Help please:(

Sounds like your bringing it too far up or past the biting point as I say.

That makes sense! So, what I have to do is always keep my foot slightly down on the clutch when taking off/reversing? Usually, I would take my foot completely off!:o

I'll try explain best I can.

Forgetting that the gas pedal exists for a moment, yes, unless the car is going at speed (say 10-15 kph) you would have to hold it at the biting point.

Have a read of this thread. It should help you.

Give it a small bit of revs with the accelerator while you are releasing the clutch. This will stop it from conking out.Its hard to balance both at first but when you get used to it its a doddle.

Keep your heel on the floor. That maybe the problem

The car is cutting out because you need to get the revs up using the accelerator before you come fully off the clutch - as the lads have said, its a balancing act between your left and right foot.

Left foot comes up to find the biting point - at this point the car may in fact move for you depending on the car, the road surface slope etc (and whether you are starting with the hand brake up or down). You then need to be bringing your right foot down on the accelerator at the same time to take off properly - slowly and steadily - so that when your left foot is fully off the clutch the car is moving on the accelerator - your right foot has 'taken over' in other words.

It sounds like your bringing your left foot up without getting your right foot down far enough.

Note for the purposes of the test you can do e.g. the reverse around the corner 'on the clutch' only without being marked for that - this can help you with close control although better driving practice would be to get off the clutch fully (holding the clutch at the bite excessively wears it out).

I know this is two months on but just practice and you will figure it out yourself.
I know it is really annoying at the start but the best way to learn is to go to an abandoned place ( preferably quite large like a parking lot ) and practice till you figure it out. Don't worry you will ! That is how I did it anyway and I tried asking people exactly what I was doing wrong as well ,but, to no avail! The reason- people can try and analyse and analyse and analyse but it will really come from " private practice" ( medicine related pun intended) lol :)
