    The blue male plug is a serial port, can't be used for video, only fairly old peripherals like analog modems. For sound, is there a headphone socket at the front of the machine?

    No headphone socket only 2 usb ports. What are the options,

    ps/2 splitter?

    using usb?

    Are there any coloured sockets on the back of the machine? Headphone and microphone sockets are pretty standard these days though the presence of a serial port would indicate that that's a fairly old machine.

    yup this is an old yoke got the whole package for €40 crt monitor etc just as a cheapie back up if lappy gives up the ghost, nowt to loose.

    There is only what you see in the picture, but its running win xp sp3

    I'm sure there is a work around

    I have a ps2/usb adaptor which I could use for the mouse and free up that port for speakers but how do I connect headphone jack to that, another adaptor?

    You won't get sound from a USB or PS2 port. PS2 ports are input only anyway. Typically a desktop/mini-tower would have a sound card in one of the slots so that at the back of the machine there would be coloured sockets for headphone and mic.

    If that's the packard bell imedia 3054 computer, there is a line out for speakers. It should be light green

    If there is no sound card, it's easy and cheap enough to get one on eBay or somewhere and install it yourself. If you really don't want to go messing around inside, you could get a USB sound card like this one. I have it and it works well enough. The only thing is if the PC is that old it may have only USB 1.1 ports in which case an internal card might be a better option.

    sorry lads I really shouldn't be let out :D there is the usual 3 sound/mic and whatever the one is down at the bottom which I didn't see to include in pic's.

    MiniNukinfuts yup it's the iMedia 3054 all right I got the whole package for a few euro's (allthough yoyo advised against it as apparently its not a great make.

    It will do me fine as a cheap backup and handy to have in another room.

    thanks for the advice lads.
