    Hi,
Anyone here know the laws on headlight tint film. I have a 2006 corolla with quite bright headlights. I would like to tint them a light-medium shade of blue. Anyone know if I can get in trouble for this.
    Thanks

Seen a guy with amber on his polo healights, to be honest it looks horrible on cars, IMO it makes the car look older but im coming from when i saw the amber on his car!

Please for the love of god dont do it! unless you want a bored garda stopping you on a quiet day.

i do agree that amber looks horrible, i'd only go with bright colours like blue, purple, green if i was ever gonna do it. highly unlikely that i will not seeing as they're illegal :P

I tinted my headlights on my FTO black.

Well, I say tinted, it's a 'fly-eye' kit, so called cos the film is full of holes. The light looks no different at night time, inside or out, but when the lights are off during the daytime, the light looks black!

A friend of mine has passed the NCT with the film on, but only on the rear lights, neither of us have tried with it on the front lights yet!

Blue tinted bulbs are the legal way to go. They'll make the reflector bowl look blue turned off, but they still put out a pure white light. You'll need two pairs of these to do the job properly. Don't mind that jib about xenon and HIDs in the listing, they're plain old 55W halogens with a blue tint. I've had the H4 version of them, and while they do put out more light, this is counteracted by the fact that they're covered in a film of blue. They won't be any brighter than your current bulbs, but they put out a whiter light (nowhere near blue). The upside is they'll pass the NCT and the Gardai can't say anything to you about them. They're also the cheapest way to go about it (non-tinted bulbs are €10 EACH in Halfords. The blue tinted ones are €28 EACH ).

For the grey legal route, get >8000 K HIDs for your dipped beams. They won't tint your headlights when the car is off, they look almost like standard bulbs. But they will be very very blue when turned on. If you get a H7R kit they're not too blinding to other people. It's up to you how blue you want to go with these. I have 8000 K in mine at the minute, and they'd still pass for a white colour. The bluer you go, the less light you're throwing out, and the more other people will be blinded by the glare. You'll get away with up to 12,000 K I'd guesstimate on a daily (and more importantly, nightly) car, which are a decent blue.

To look like a knob, cover your headlights in a blue tint film. People will laugh at you, your lights will look and perform terribly, and you'll certainly be told to take them off by the law if you haven't already ripped them off in shame. This is all assuming you can even get the film to apply onto your headlights, which are a double curvature. Applying regular vinyl to steep double curves is nigh-on impossible without a heatgun, squeegee and gallons of app fluid, so a tint film will be even harder.

There, I think that's all your bases covered ;)
