    Hi all,

I have a Merc C200 2005, it starts up straight away when I turn it on in the morning or after a period of inactivity, but for example if I turn it off at a filling station etc and try to turn it on no joy, I have to wait a while before trying the key again.

I had a cooler sensor replaced a while back so the problem must be somewhere else ?

    Thank you in advance.

This may or may not help you - it's just a personal discovery!
My Merc does not like to be started, switched off and started again in quick succession. The water temp needle needs to move before turning off. I believe it has to do with the engine management system wrongly deciding that you are allowed only one cold start per trip. Your car may require more water temp than mine, i.e. a longer run before switching off.
If you throw large denomination € notes at your Merc dealer, I'm sure he can adjust it but I just wait until the water temp needle goes to approx. 60 deg. Who knows! It might inconvenience a car thief someday!

another thing is.... i found out on vw passat, one guy came over with passat (petrol engine), and he had same problem like op - start warm car... i did diagnostics with wagcom , and it said that crankshaft sensor not working right, after replacing that sensor , car was fine.

op, suggest you go to garage, where possible do diagnostics , usually it cost 50 euro, and is cheaper, than change sensors randomly.

    Hi all,

It was the crankshaft sensor.....thank you for all your replies. He also changed another temperature sensor, which does not report to the dashboard I believe.

Guy in Dublin 24 did it for me, he was very good, collected the car from my office, did the job and charged a fair price. He specialises in mercs jags audis bmw etc.

    Cheers
