Samsun HDTV Issues

Hi Guys I have the following Samsumg HDTV model PS42A456P2D.

The issue I am having is that when I got up this morning to turn it on, it would not stay on. It keeps turning on and then as soon as you get the picture it turns itself off. It then repeats itself again.

I have tried disconnecting everything, so it left the TV on its own, it still powers on and off, in that cycle.

Does anybody have any idea what the issue could be. It is about two years old and has not been knocked, its on aTV stand.

    Any help would be great.

I had similar problems with my 42"Samsung.
I downloaded the latest firmware on to a usb stick from their website and updated through the usb port.I havent had any trouble since.
    Good luck

I have a similar problem with my Samsung LEXXXXXXXX, It's a few years old now so warrenty is outta date.

To combat my problems I kill the power totally at night and when I go out - ie don't leave it on stand by. This has calmed but not solved my problems.

    Cheers for the input.

I do that each night. All the power from the TV is switched off. The TV was running perfect until this morning, so dont know why all of a sudden it is acting the maggot now.

I got the TV and surround sound system from Currys in Blanchardstown. I might head over to them and see if they can suggest anything off hand. I have an electronics background, so reflowing any of the solder joints in a given area would be grand. I just want to cover all basis first. As it is out of warrenty, I wont be breaking anything if I choose to open it myself to have a look.

I did disconnect everything from the TV, ie Skybox, DVD etc. It still turns off and back on again and repeats the cycle.

just for the sake of it. Would you have the site that you downloaded the Firmware from. I know it sounds lazy, but Id rather use a site that was used before and that their firmware software corrected the issue.

    Cheers

Curry's MD Declan is a good guy.

He interacts with customers over on the Curry's forum and should be able to point you in the right direction.

This issue could be for a variety of reasons.

But is does sound like overheating and it is switching itself off to protect both you and itself!

Are the vents clogged in any way ? Dust ? Its not unusual for TVs to be opened up (don't attempt this yourself!!) to find them clogged with crap. Cold hair dryer and/or hoover from outside might be an idea.

    Try the simple things first.

If its not the simple things then it is something on the board (I have read issues with capacitors on some Samsung LCDs). Check with Samsung to see if there has been an issue with this model.

If it was software it would be something like power save mode recycling, but that is the least likely IMO.

Dont flash the firmware! If it is shutting down you dont want it shutting down during a flash as it would certainly be bricked then.

Samsung should help you if it is only 2 years old.

I had a similar problem 4 months ago with a different model Samsung.
Browsing the internet, I found that it is quite a common problem with Samsungs, (apparently they had problems with capacitors) and that they often offer to repair at their expense, even if the TV is out of warranty.

My TV was out of warranty. I phoned Samsung using the number for Ireland on their website. They put me in touch with their local repair company.

Samsung paid for the parts replacement, and all I had to pay was €75 to the repair company, who collected the TV, repaired it, and returned it to me. I thought this was fair enough, under the circumstances.

EDIT: By the way, I think the warranty on Samsung TVs is 3 years, so I would get on to them if I were you, as you could possibly get the whole thing done for nothing.

I had a similar issue with a 40" LCD that was over 3 years old, kept switching on and off. I found out that it was a known problem with that TV.

Try ringing Samsung directly (0818 717100).

I ended up getting my tv repaired for free.

    Best of luck.
