RTE Player coverage and Broadcast charge

The primary justification for the broadcast charge seems to be to take account of people using non-traditional methods of viewing RTE content - in particular the RTE player.

In that case surely there should be 100% coverage from RTE player?

This is not currently the case as for example Fair City is not included due to the contracts in place with the actors.

Also they should be forced to remove the adverts from RTE player and RTE websites if the broadcast charge takes effect.

The tv licence funds RTE which carries ads, and always has done so I see no logic for your position in that regard.

As for the rte player clearly all broadcast items must be on it if there is to be consistency.

The ads comment was just throw in as an afterthought, but RTE player makes you watch the advert(s) before a show - you are unable to skip it or fast forward and in effect forced to steam it.

I can change channel on my TV or fast forward on my DVR box - user should be able to skip the adverts.

Sure but if you watch live TV you can't skip and before recording technology you had to sit there and suck it up!

You can do something equivalent on your PC: have another window open in which you can do something until the ad is finished - perhaps use the extra window to post to this forum.

You can certainly change "channel" on the internet!, "oh look ads I'll refresh boards.ie, check my e-mail", etc. I think you are making mountains of molehills.

Sure, but I'm still forced to 'download' unwanted streamed content.

Ad block stops the ads on RTÉ Player

    Thanks, I'll try that.

Ad Block on Firefox blocks video ads, it doesn't on Chrome unfortunately.

Thanks! It worked a treat. No more ads on RTE player for me. I had reached the stage where I'd given up using it because I got ads repeated 2/3 times before the start of a programme and again halfway through.
