Help me puhleeeez before I hunt down the lad who sold me a piece of Compaq crap.

Laptop power lead had a wire problem inside it, basically stopped working, started working for a few days, stopped, started etc until it went completely last week. I've been waiting for a new one which is apparently virtually impossible to get because HP leads are all different. Anyway I got a new one, like the old one today and left it plugged in for a few hours, came back and the computer still wont power on. The light is on showing that power is getting from the plug to the machine but no charging? I dont know. It wont work directly off the mains. Is it the battery? The machine?

Im livid and confused? What could be wrong now?

(Are there any decent laptop brands out there at all)

Try taking out the battery, unplugging the laptop and holding the power button down for about 30 seconds, then plug in the power lead (leave the battery out for now) and see if that works!
