Work in Austria

I've recently moved over to Graz, Austria. I'm finding it difficult to find any form of work as i dont speak German. I've tried all the Irish/English bars with little success, all were full at the time. I've also tried Berlitz, a language teaching institute, to see if they need any english speaking tutors. No luck there either unfortunatly, they wanted me to work for a minium of a year which i cant as I wont be in the country past August. I will hopefully be starting a german course soon so that'll help somewhat, but its only a beginners course.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had issues like these and/or any help/advice that anyone can give.

I did, i knew that german was going to be a problem. As i said i am starting to take german classes. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas or if they have had luck in similar circumstances.

Anyone I know who went to Austria or Germany had learnt some of the language before they went.

OP if you don't have German it is going to be tough. Your best bet is to try to get some seasonal work in a ski resort frequented by english speakers, Kitzbuhel or Mayerhofen would be good places to start. There are a lot of businesses in those towns owned by ex-pats who would be more sympathetic to a non-German speaker.

Some resorts are year round in that when the snow melts in April hikers and mountain bikers begin to arrive for the summer. If you find the right place you'll have work into the summer.

Without trying to sound rude, just how exactly is this helpful?

Thanks for that mate, I'll have a look around and see if anythings available. Currrently im stuck in Graz, I'm living with my girlfriend and she's stuck here till around the end of march.

As of the moment if have found a lil bit of work doing odd jobs for a few people. I've also put up flyers around the university area to see if people would like some kind of english tuition. Hopefully I'll get some joy that way.
