Lads, looking for your opinions here, car as expected failed the nct, and the midsection of the exhaust was wrecked, and they didn't test emissions as the engine was too noisy at 3k rpm to run for the appropriate time.

Now I've slight confusion here as the report lists fault codes for the failures, but on emissions it just says "retest Emissions not done, engine noisy" as the reason.

Where I am confused is I'm wondering if that was due to the exhaust being wrecked and making the engine noisy or if the fact the variator is on the way out and needs to be replaced is the issue?

The variator is scheduled to be replaced anyway along with the timing belt, but tbh you can't here the tapping of it at 3k rpm so I'm wondering if the exhaust had that effect?

It's a 00 Alfa GTV? I'm tempted to retest it with the new exhaust and find out if there is an issue with engine noise (I didn't take it for the first test) and see what the actual issue is if it does fail?

    Thanks :)

It's the variator which is failing and causing the engine to be lovely and noisy.

Replacing that before I retest, as even with the exhaust fixed it's failing emissions :)
