Sky+ sd box - HD TV

A relation is getting a new 40" LED TV.

He currently has a SKY+ sd box connected by Scart to an old CRT television (which, incidentally, gives great pictures)

If he connects the SKY+ sd box via Scart to the new LED tv will this result in dire quality or can some sort of upscaling take place by the tv if connected via Scart?

Or should I pick up a SKY+ HD box for him (without hd sub - just existing sub) - will this result in better pictures on the new tv for the sd channels because it would be connected via HDMI?

    Thanks.

I had a standard sky+ box connected to a 42" HD LCD. Picture was very good. I bought a sky hd box on adverts, got the card paired to the box & with a hdmi cable I noticed a big improvement on all channels not just the BBC HD channel. So both options are fine.

Thanks. If you say a big improvement I'm tempted to pick up a Sky HD box so...and get rid of the Scart cable!

Related question - if he continues with his current sd subscription and I get him a HD box:

    1) Will the recording capability of Sky + continue on the new box once paired via Sky?

    2) Will he get the free HD channels such as ITV HD and BBC HD etc without upgrading to a HD subscription?

    Thanks.

Plus you can record more programs as the HD boxes have a greater capacity.

BBC HD & BBC1 HD are available on the EPG so are recordable. ITV1 HD would have to be tuned in through the other channels so cannot be recorded.
