    Reg poster going unreg here.

I'm 25, on casual worker's allowance JSA (the yellow dockets), and am now applying for a medical card. I'm really confused by some of the questions.

Firstly, I live in rented house, with 3 other people - does that mean I live alone (I don't share a room with a partner/spouse), or not?

The medical card income guidelines are €184 for a single person - is that €184 including my social welfare payments, or just the money I earn from part-time work? Like, do I add my weekly social welfare + work payments to arrive at that figure? Sorry if these are stupid questions, I just find it all really confusing.

    Cheers.

Basically, you apply, you detail everything you have to pay for every week and any medical issues and you hope you'll get it.

    Hi
I would recommend visiting your local HSE Community Welfare Office, taking as much documentation as you can with you.
Although the applications themselves are processed centrally, the local offices are still able to advise you regarding completing your application. It does seem that your situation is a little complicated:) Good luck with your application!

I think you will be ok as long as you are renting a room on your own. That is you dont have others as dependants.

Just complete your details and enclose your rent receipt it will do as proof.

The medical card assessment guidelines can be viewed at the following link http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/Find_a_Service/entitlements/Medical_Cards/mcgpvcguidelines.pdf

Your income includes income from Social Welfare AND any income from employment.

If you are in shared accommodation then you will be treated as a single person, but you should include details of those you share with. You should describe them on the form as "no relation" or "non-dependent household member" or something similar to make sure that they are not treated as family members.
