    any way to upload photos from dvd to windows xp so they can edited, any time I upload them they remain in the dvd format and are unavailable to edit

    Is is a DVD video that contains the pictures? If so extracting the videos isn't really possible to be "automated" as a DVD Video disc stores all graphic and audio in a video file (MPEG 2). One way to extract the pictures would be to play the DVD on the computer and use a screenshot tool that supports direct video to take a snapshot of the image. Not ideal but I'm not sure of any other ways either!

    not sure if this is what your looking for, but:

    Imtoo DVD Ripper Standard allows you to capture pictures from dvd movies at regular intervals and convert them to JPG, GIF, PNG, and BMP image formats.

    You should also be aware that when ripping a photo from a video, the resolution of the photo will be very low.

    It will be good enough to display on a web page, but not good enough to print. It will come out all blocky.
