Read this on the bloomberg website.

    Facebook Weighs Expanding European HQ

Facebook Inc. is seeking to more than double the size of its European headquarters in Dublin as the most popular social-networking site prepares for a possible $10 billion initial public offering, three people with knowledge of the matter said. Facebook may move and lease as much as 11,150 square meters (120,000 square feet) of office space in the Irish capital over five years, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the information is private. Facebook, which set up its Dublin office in 2008, currently occupies about 5,000 square meters of space in the city’s south docklands neighborhood, according to one of the people.
The Dublin office is responsible for all of the company’s users outside of the U.S. and Canada, according to the Irish data-protection agency. Co-founded by Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook is examining a $10 billion IPO that would value the Menlo Park, California-based company at more than $100 billion, a person with knowledge of the matter said in November.
Among the real-estate options being considered are the former Bank of Ireland headquarters building and two office blocks in south docklands close to Facebook’s existing location, the people said.
The deadline for building owners to pitch proposals for the new space was Jan. 13, the people said. Emily Clarke, a spokeswoman for Facebook in London, declined to comment.
    Google Purchase

Some of the biggest technology companies are expanding in Dublin. Google Inc. (GOOG), based in Mountain View, California, bought two Dublin buildings that make up its European headquarters in March for an undisclosed price. Twitter Inc. will open an international office in the city, Ireland’s Industrial Development Authority said in September. Microsoft Corp. may expand its Dublin data center by a third, the Sunday Business Post reported that month.
Facebook has “demand” for office space in Dublin, Jones Lang LaSalle Inc. (JLL) said in a report yesterday on the city’s office market. Prime rents in Dublin are 28 euros to 32 euros ($36 to $41) a square foot, down from 55 euros in 2008, Jones Lang said. The report didn’t say how much space Facebook might seek.
Total sales at Facebook in 2012 may surge 52 percent to 62 percent from last year’s projected $4.27 billion through increased ad revenue, according to Debra Aho Williamson, an analyst at EMarketer.

Good news. I still think Facebook is a monstrous waste of time but I'd be happy to see them here.

Excellent news! I hope this goes ahead. The bank of ireland building would be a great boost for the citys commercial letting portfolio. Microsoft doesnt seem to have expanded for a while?

Excellent news, hope it is true.

Note how Dublin commercial rents have nearly halved. That is good news too, even if the Facebook expansion doesn't go ahead as it makes us more competitive.

Some good news amidst all the doom and gloom. Lets hope the expansion goes ahead. That would be a great boost for the Dublin economy.

Plenty of empty office blocks to choose from, its a stone's throw from where I live. Perhaps entice FB to occupy the half finished eyesore of Anglo's building on the North Quays? :D

Great news. Hope it goes ahead.

Mind you, it would be good to see similar things happening outside Dublin as well

Central bank are supposed to be looking at taking over the anglo building. That would be a great boost for the docklands. All 1500 staff to be consolidated there if it goes through.

I'll add the link but it'll probably be out of date soon
    http://www.facebook.com/careers/department.php?dept=dublin

    Some excellent IT jobs there

Though most jobs are for sales and that's to be expected, expanding business and Ireland is the European HQ so the staff in Ireland must generate the sales

Lots of language options there, certainly a marker that having a second language is a good advantage when it comes to employment

When the country is as banjaxed as it is, we need to be grateful for any jobs, anywhere.

Dublin needs now, more than ever, to be fully supported by all our people, so the city can develop the infrastructure it needs to make it truly attractive, long term, for employees of companies like Facebook, Google, Microsoft etc. Employees in these kinds of companies will get fed up if life means 2 hours of commuting per day because there's no underground. Quality of life is where it's at for these sorts of employees, and therefore the companies that hire them. Dublin needs to offer more than just cheap rents and low corporation taxes, if we are to retain high quality companies years into the future.

Many regional UK cities put Dublin into the shade wrt public transport-Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham etc. all have better systems. Dublin is our capital city and should be a showcase for what Ireland can do.

We need to stop trying to spread the butter too thinly on the bread and develop Dublin into the city it should be.
