Good news for guys involved. Looks like it will lead to jobs too.

    From Website

Jobs by Declan on 20 Jan 2012

Some good news to start off 2012 from Betapond. We are pleased to announce venture capital funding of €1.15m.

This funding will enable us to accelerate our growth into new markets in Europe, double our engineering team in Waterford, Ireland and to expand our operations in London.

We will continue to work with leading advertising agencies across Europe, and our phenomenal clients in the Tourism, Retail & Entertainment industries.

We are huge fans of social mobile marketing, especially within and around the Facebook platform. Over the coming months we will be launching multiple product suites to enable brands with physical footfall to use social media tools to drive social media engagement in store, from existing footfall.

It has been a roller-coaster of a journey over the last two years and we have had great fun. We are definitely looking forward to the rest of 2012.

I've said it on here before, but there's great news coming out of the TSSG regularly. It makes a change from all the general doom and gloom around

Here's another 2 stories from the last 10 days alone:

Coming out of the Arclabs building, yes, not these are not attached to the TSSG. I know FeedHenry and ZolkC spun out, but as soon as VC money comes in, the coord is cut fairly rapidly. :)

I hope all these companies kick on. The VC money is not massive so the risks are high.

The amount of money is fairly small, but to be honest I'm more excited about this than the call centre jobs.

We have to accept that we will get very little from the government and I'm glad that people are starting export businesses in Waterford. This one small company carries more hope with it than any number of M&Ss.

The only fear that I would have is that when startups hit the big time, very often they get bought out at a fairly early stage for, say, €10-20m (on an investment of a couple of million) and they relocate their HQs to California or are absorbed into a silicon valley outfit. Okay, somebody gets rich, but the company is gone. And given how many times the risk does not pan out, you'd like to make more than that on the sale of a successful one.
