If you were going to believe everything posted on here you'd be led to believe that the VW 2.0 TDi will disintegrate as soon as you turn the key in it.

So I'll defend it. I have my Golf a year this week. 71,000km, two services and 6 tyres, and utterly without issue apart from that. It's a decent motor, has as much poke as I need, and is returning an average of 53mpg, and that's with a pilot with a heavy foot on board.

*waits for engine to evaporate in a cloud of smoke next week after posting this*

I'm no expert/mechanic but there is a slight difference between the 2.0TDI PD engine in the Golf and the Passat I think but I don't know the reason, others on here will probably tell you that.:)

Good to hear yours is reliable anyway!

The 140 bhp 2.0TDI in the Golf has no balance shaft to give bother and has reliable Bosch injectors rather than the troublesome Siemens ones.
