I never cringed as much while reading that article, in fact I was almost reduced to tears!

This is such a NON Story! Airworthiness Directives are hugely common and does not mean something is unsafe like this article is suggesting. I wish the journalist did some proper research! Ive easily seen about 80 ADs for an engine type, and you could quadruple that number for Service Bulletins.

Its just pure scare mongering Ahh!

I guess because it's the A380. Big news for the public. Non event for industry staff.

Why should I? I see hundreds of them a day at work. Want me to piss off the OEM of those too, and everything else?

ADs are just a way of ensuring safety is complied with and to check what they recommend checking, service bulletins are similar but have less of a priority. ADs are tracked by the company to ensure they are complied with.

Its just because it has to do with the A380 that it has made it into the papers. Why not report on the multiple ADs that were issued regarding the skin joints on the classic 737? Remember the aloha incident?

"A different kind of crack on the rib feet was discovered and repaired on two of Singapore Airlines' seven A380s following inspections that followed the November"

How can they repair a crack

Did they weld it up and drill a hole at the end of it to stop it spreding?

I would have expected them to replace the part rather than repair it.

It is either bad journalism or Airbus taking shortcuts, I would certainly want to know.

If crack is found, Operator would contact Airbus, with dimensions, photo's and drawing of crack and Airbus inturn would produce a repair for the crack.
Just like all damage found on aircraft manufacturer would be contacted if it outside SRM repair limits.

In layman's terms can anyone explain to us / show us where theses cracks are in relation to the structure of the wing?
