Where to sell jewellery online?

Hi guys I started making jewellery a while back and now that I've got a growing collection, I'd like to start selling it online. I'm not expecting people to be beating my door down to make me a millionaire but I would like to just test the waters and see if I can get shut of some of my bits and bobs

Thing is, I'm not sure if I'd be better off selling on eBay or setting up my own website. Also, all the pieces I make are sterling silver (components, chain etc) which is fairly expensive to use in comparison to 'antique' silver and gold. I'm a die hard believer that jewellery should be made from high quality durable material so I'm not keen to use the cheaper imitation alloys. If I were making jewellery to sell, would it be more sensible and cost effective to use the less expensive materials?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

might be a bit too obvious, but I find most if not all of my customers are through facebook, I don't advertise only "network" on fb, setting up a page and networking could be a great way to try out for free for you.x

I'm with bernyh... Facebook and Twitter are by far the most powerful tools to sell handmade craft items... particularly if you set up a dedicated page and market it by offering say a prize draw for something like a necklace... entry into which is gained by an individual liking and sharing your page on their wall. Has the ability to go viral very, very quickly if handled correctly!

etsy is also good as a vehicle to facilitate transactions... like through a link on your facebook or twitter. Though it is very simple to set up a basic ecommerce site nowadays using blog templates like Wordpress. Anyhow good luck regardless of how you proceed!

I know what you mean, I've just had my jewellery site rebuilt (see my profile) and am looking for ways to boost sales too. Facebook looks like the way to go!
