So I quit Facebook

I finally got sick of having no privacy and I decided to get rid of my Facebook page..

My plan was to delete and block my friends one by one as I want to keep the page itself there as a sort of photo album just for myself.

When I started that process I realised that you can no longer just list your friends and X them off one at a time, but you now have to use a drop down list to 'unfriend' them and I couldn't figure out how to then block them..

I changed from the old format to that dreadful 'Timeline' thing a couple of weeks ago..

In the end I just used that 'deactivate' function, which I know is only a quick fix and leaves me open to temptation to go back to it...

I intend to sit down today at some stage and delete my friends but I need to know how to block them, as I am going to leave my partner as my only friend because we share a lot of photos of our Son.. and we would have a lot of mutual friends who I don't want thinking I'm still on Facebook..

    Does that make any sense??

    Cheers..

Why don't you just unfriend them, then make sure your privacy settings mean you can't be added by anyone who's not your friend? Not much point blocking them, that doesn't do anything to stop someone new trying to add you.

Alternatively, go to Account Settings => General => Click "Download a copy of your Facebook data", then you'll have all your photos offline, so you can just delete your account and use something like Flickr as a dedicated photo sharing service

But would mutual friends not still be able to see that my page is still active from looking at my partners page? I want them to think I've gotten rid of the page altogether..

How would you have any mutual friends? You've unfriended them

If you set your privacy settings correctly. Once they are unfriended they won't be able to see anything. Even friends of friends. Eg your partners friends won't be able to see anything. You won't have any mutual friends cause there won't be anyone to be a mutual friend. It will suggest saying you may know x she is a mutual friend of.... But that's all they can see anything

I'm fairly sure that you need to be able to see both partner's relationship status to see the relationship, but you could just ask your partner to unset the relationship flag to be certain

Why not move all your pics to an account on photobucket, for example, and make it private. Give your partner the password so only he can view the pics and just get rid of Facebook altogether.

    Simples...

    :)

Why not deactivate Facebook and use a proper photo site like Flickr or Picasa?

If you never want to use the FB account again just make a new email account somewhere and change your FB account to that email and then change the email account's password to something you'd never remember.

    Or imgur.

You can go into your facebook settings and download a backup of your entire profile in one zipped file, photos and everything, that'll save you a lot hassle.

Wish I could break away from facebook, I sometimes imagine all the productive things I could be doing with the hours I spend on it a month!
