Hoping to organise a 4 ball trip to Edinburgh, hopefully playing 4 courses in 4 days. Has anyone played in and around Edinburgh ? Or any advice / recommendations for courses ?

    Hi curly

Played a municipal course on the outskirts of Edinburg last summer called braid hill as the name implies it's quiet hilly but the views of Edinburg are amazing and variety of holes great for a municipal course.
    Enjoy the weekend !!

Thank you for that suggestion. We are looking at a radius of about 30 miles around Edinburgh if anyone else can help, very much in the dark but e mailing a lot of courses in the area for green fees .

So many quality courses in that area it would be impossible to narrow it down to just 4 - drive west along the coast and you are literally falling over them. But one I would recommend you play just for the novelty factor is Musselburgh Links, the oldest golf course in the world! It's only 9 holes, so you could fit it in after playing one of the championship courses in the morning -Royal Musselburgh is nearby, although personally when I was there I couldn't bring myself to play a parkland with so many great links courses nearby.

Op, play Kingsbarns up in St.andrews if you can, it is magnificent but a little pricey, about one hour drive fro Edinburgh

The only course I've played is Murrayfield Golf Club which is a very central and established club with some lovely views of the city below. However it's pretty short and a bit on the pricey side if not playing with a member as I was.

It's an interesting one this. You know your four ball, you know you're going to Edinburgh, you know the courses have to be within 30miles of Edinburgh. Curly, why did you choose Edinburgh?

I've played both Lunden Links and Elie, both about 40 minutes away and fairly cheap. Both are nice links courses, although Elie is a little 'quirky'.

They both have one major problem, by the time you reach them you know that another 15 minutes would get you to Crail, Kingsbarns, and of course St. Andrews. In fact we played them on the way to/from Crail /St. Andrew's.

All depend on you budget, obviously Muirfield is top of the list but may not be possible, North Berwick is a classic as well as Gullane ( 3 courses one of which is used for British Open qualifying) , plenty options in terms of links..

Loads of council courses within the city limits, varying standards but I would second the previous poster and recommend the Braids..stunning views and a nice little track to book

For no other reason other than Cork Edinburgh is the only direct flight to Scotland !!
We have been to Portugal for the last 5 years. This year I was asked to do a bit of research into Scotland as an alternative.
We are somewhat limited in that the total spend per head should not exceed 700 e all in, golf flights accom transfers . I was saying a 30 mile radius with transfers in mind and the coastline seems to have plenty to choose from within that distance To be honest Im not sure Scotland is do able at this price. We never been to Scotland so its a definite internet / advice exercise at the moment. We are wide open to suggestions.

In that case, look up travelsupermarket.com for car hire (between 4 I'd be surprised if this tops €30 head) then give yourgolftravel.com a call. One you've got the car you can be flexible to their best offer. Even Gleneagles will give you a deal for a weeknight.
