Austrian resort suggestions during Dutch mid term

    Hi All,

I'm usually able to navigate my way around the European Mid Term breaks but it looks as if our week away this year is going to be 25/26 Feb. France is out as the Parisians are on half term, Austria would typically be our default for the Apres but I'm worried about the hordes of Dutch arriving - It happened us once in Kaprun and it was a disaster.

Has anyone any nuggets of wisdom to pass on, are there resorts that are out of reach by the mainly 'drive to' Dutch. Typically we like a resort with lots of KM's, mainly reds (with a few blacks to keep me happy) and our Apres requirements are 3/4 beers off the slopes, shower, change, head out for dinner and in bed by 11 ready for the next morning.

Please note; Should you be from the Netherlands I have absolutely nothing against the Dutch and I love Holland - I just don't want to feel like I'm skiing there ;)

    Thanks,

    Digger

We've been to Westendorf for the last few years. We're restricted to going during the Irish mid-term and either last year or the year before this coincided with the UK & Dutch mid-term. Given this, it was full of Dutch, English & Irish families.

However we didn't notice any major problems. The lifts coming up from the town are fast enough that the queues don't really build up(maybe 10 minutes if you are really unlucky), and once you are up the mountain there are enough routes so that you can avoid anywhere that looks like it's popular with the ski schools. In addition, if you get the region pass you have a load of mountains in easy reach. Go up to the top of Choralpe, ski down to Brixen, cross the road and take the lift up - http://www.skiwelt.at/en/the-ski-resort-skiwelt-wilder-kaiser-brixental.html

What I'm getting at is that if the resort has good lifts up from the town then you don't have to worry about crowds as much as in the old days. I remember being in savage 30, 40, 50 minute queues in the bad old days, but increases in lift capacity have addressed that in recent years.
