Started to service my defender 07 today......previous owner had the book filled in with service history upto the wazoo with a main stealer. I never believe this stuff and if an indie had his paws on it, I'd believe the work was done. 109k km on clock. Price I got it for I was happy, stamps or not.

Anyway did all the oils today re gearbox, axles, Transfer box.....everything was pure mank.....the fuel filter was there from day one.....I'll have it done 2m with the help of my mechanic mate.

My only point is when guys say dealer serviced, take it with a grain of salt....means nothing, they just bless yokes going thru their garages and put a big stealer stamp in book......disgraceful stuff. Rant over, ;)

Irish dealers view dealer servicing as "we worked on it"

not "we serviced it according to the manufacturerers guidelines"

Service books can be bought off the internet. As with all things car related the only way to be sure is to call the garages and ask did they do the work.

Del with respect, call the garages? They'll tell you what you want to hear. I've had loads of yokes over the years all with the big stamps and in reality nothing was done.....likewise with my 90. Finished it today and put my own smiley  stamp in the book which actually for once complies with the LR service sched....the worst was in an previous stamped stealer service it stated that brake pads were done less than 6k ago, fronts were down to the bone with one of the calipers seized and the rears were fughed. I'd luv to name and shame but apart from upsetting mods it achieves nothing. My only humble point is dealer stamped history is a joke in this country......and what a difference a good service makes:)
