htpc. is your best bet for all in one.

otherwise you are looking at something like a az box or similar.

Yes an HTPC or a linux based receiver is what you probably want. Ive a dreambox 800 (Clone), but its a great piece of kit. Home streaming, watching movie files, playing audio files, recording from tv. Cant fault it. I had a HTPC before moving over to a linux driven box.

If you want to go for a Linux based HTPC you could give yaVDR a try. It comes with XBMC and allows to watch and record TV: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=2056510972

Warning: yaVDR only works flawlessly with modern Nvidia GPUs at this time because it relies on Nvidia VDPAU for GPU-based decoding of HD content.

If you want to have a small form factor you could go for a Nettop with Nividia ION(2). Examples:
Lenovo Ideacentre q150

Zotac ZBox ID 40 (or similar)

Acer Revo R3700

If you want a HTPC that isn't going to be a needless pain in the ass and difficult to configure, I recommend NextPVR.

You can download it at www.nextpvr.com. Runs on Windows, is extremely stable and simple and has excellent support community.
