Problem ring

    Recently bought an engagement ring (6 months ago) The solitare has come loose. What are my rights in terms of refund/replacement/ repair. ?
    Can i argue that the ring is not fit for purpose? There is no warranty attched to the ring. There was no trauma to the ring that could have caused the solitaire to become dislodged

    You can argue anything. What matters is that when it comes to the crunch (e.g. the possibility of court action) what the chances are of that argument being accepted. Presuming that you are correct about the ring not having been subjected to unusual treatment, then you should expect to win the argument. It is reasonable to expect of an engagement ring that it be suitable to be worn frequently or constantly for many years: that's its purpose.
    There is no warranty attched to the ring.
    Not an issue.

    Thought it might be. Its very easy for a claw to come loose it doesn't take heavy wear or abuse. Snagging on a thread would do it. Its also easy to fix as long as the claws are intact. Your only problem might be if the claws are too light and this continues to happen.

    Most jewellry is handmade, so a repair would be the obvious solution.

    Just bring it back to the jeweller and he/she will get it repaired fairly quickly.

    Also, ensure it is on your home insurance policy incase anything happens - its a small extra cost for peace of mind.

    Of course, there is. It's automatic by law.
