What was he doing wrong, pray tell?

He was speaking Irish in an English speaking forum., There is only one forum on Boards that Irish is welcome. Outside that is just trolling. English is our official language, our majority language and our main language. Irish is now the fifth most common fluently spoken language in Ireland. He'd be banned for asking the question in Russian or Lithuanian too.

That's great, now if you could you just point out the piece in the forum charter that outlines that only English can be used on the forum and that using Irish, our first official language, results in a 1 month ban? Thanks!

Not unreal at all. He was warned twice and still insisted. It all smacked of trollism on the posters part.

Me, personally, I wouldn't choose a dentist based on their ability to speak Irish, most dentists speak dentist to begin with....anyone for a composite restoration on upper right 5 in order to aid occlusion? ;)

The Irish wasn't that great either. Poor, actually.

The charter is not law as well you know. There's no guideline preventing people speaking Polish either, mainly because most people aren't that stupid. The poster was obviously trolling as by default fluent Irish speakers are native English speakers. Pretending not to understand English or replying to an English spoken question in Irish is the height of ignorance in an English speaking forum. You have a forum to speak the secondary official language, keep it in there.

If you have an issue with the moderation in any forum on Boards please start a thread in Feedback, not in another unrelated forum.
