I'm 20 (21 in a little over 3 months) but I feel like I'm 30. Every year, in the months leading up to my birthday, I get this feeling of being old.

I'm almost 30 and I still feel like I'm in my teens. Still wondering when I'll develop a sense of maturity.

I'm 25 and I'd say I feel about my age alright.

I really don't like the way old codger-ism has been popularised among young men in our 20s. I see it all the time among my friends. I blame Ryan Tubridy for a lot of it, among a certain class of nerd. It became popular a few years ago for young men to become almost a little faux-Victorian in their manners. It's not something I tend to appreciate.

At 25 years old, fresh and energetic thinking, or adapting new waves of living, and making progress, should be your dominion. The newness of youth should not be something you abdicate for some regressive, anachronistic tradition which you think awful dapper.

    So there, Tubs.

Depends on how much I have had to drink the night before.

Feel like an 80 year old man on the way out some days.

    Generally feel my age though.

    I'm 72.

I'm 31 and feel like I'm 31, so where's the "you feel your age" option?

Mid-20s and all I feel is pressure. I've noticed a few wrinkles too which makes me feel old.

23 and I feel like I'm 33. I noticed I've been slowing down with the partying and, worryingly, I'm ok with that. Bizarrely, I've been thinking about settling down lately, settling into a career and finding someone I want to spend my life with. WTF IS GOING ON HERE? :(

I'm 23 and feel like I'm about 30-odd, with all the responsibilities I've gotten loaded up with lately (paying rent, bills, working loads, etc.)

I also don't party/drink as much as I used to, in fact I'm pretty much teetotal these days (I have to drive a lot, so no way can I drink at all). Last time I had a drink was ages ago, and the last time I was properly out of the head drunk was when Dublin won the All-Ireland back in September...

I think and act a lot older than I am...

How can you know what an older age feels like? E.g. if you're 23 how do you know what 30 feels like?
And people in their 20s - early 20s even - saying they feel old, seriously get a grip.
I know people in their 30s and 40s who go on younger than you wannabe geriatrics.

I feel younger than I am - don't know what age I specifically feel, but definitely feel younger than my age. I'm 33 and only started getting bad hangovers less than two years ago. And only vodka causes them generally.
Feeling old by kids is often in the head I think - and it's as if they kinda want to tbh.

You begin to see that your acting the same way as your older counterparts.... old before your time or wise head on young shoulders

    26 feeling 25.

Ooooooh yea!! i'm still hip & happening with the kids who listen to their Diet Vh1 and play music on their Upod 5G F.

Outdoors I think I act my age but indoors I seem to mentally revert back a fews years in maturity.

I still like doing stupid pranks like having Nutella smeared on toilet paper and leaving it on the toilet seat for some poor sod of a housemate to come across :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,579 ✭✭✭charlietheminxx

I think a mixture of both.

In everyday life, I feel older. I tend to be the person people come to for advice etc and I have a mature approach to things.

However, I pride myself on making the most of being young! I don't want to settle down or stay in at the weekends and the like. While I am young and have no major commitments (like children or a mortgage) I am going to make the most of my freedom.... but this is because I know I can't do it forever and so I'll go for it while I can!

    I'm 24, by the way.

The older you get the more you realise age doesn't matter. There's a twenty year old woman peering back at you out of those rheumy pensioners eyes.

Physically thats a different matter, the older you get the harder you need to work to maintain standards, most have no idea what an easy ride they had until they hit their mid 30s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,145 ✭✭✭Katgurl

I don't understand how people can feel older than they currently are, I have no idea what a 40-something woman feels having never been one.

However I definitely feel older all the time. I was at a school reunion few months ago and people were consistently saying they felt the same as they did as a teenager in school. I really don't see how that is viewed as a positive: to not change or learn anything in over a decade, half a lifetime actually.

The fact that there are negative connotations with getting older baffle me. Aside from the obvious physical stuff (which is another topic) why would you want to feel like a teenager given all the anxiety, drama, insecurity that goes with it?

Ah for the love of god...I think you've mistaken the word "thirty" for the word "dry-arse". Life doesn't end at 30 regardless of what you whipper snappers think.

Well I guess most young people see themselves as mature therefore older and once you hit a certain age between your late teens or mid 20s when you have really found a sense of who you are that just sticks, now psychically feeling older is a different matter altogether.
If I wanted to generalise even more :pac:
    I get the feeling that..
14 year olds feel like 16 year olds
    16 year olds feel like they're 18
    18 year olds feel like they're 21
21 year olds either feel like they're still 18 or breaching 25-30 as if the best days of their lives are nearly done.

I am 35, and all of my experiences up to now have made the man I am, I feel much younger (in my head) I am in the prime of life, I am enjoying myself, doing what I want, when I want - I do not regret a thing because it has all brought me to here.. to those who posted that they feel older than their age, I say - relax, live your life fully without worrying about the future.

The next 5 years will be my best, mentally physically and emotionally, I am looking forward to enjoying what I will make happen for me.

and that, Ladies and Gents.... is my 300th post!

    I'm 25 too:):)
Physically I'm at the top of my game.
Almost have my BF under 10%. I will bring it to about 8%. I want to get to around 15-16 stone though so I'll need a few more bulks but while I'm playing football there's not much I can really do to get this up there.
Physically I feel like I'm in my prime. Not old anyway.

Mentally I have often been told I'm an old spirit...not really sure what that means tbh. I don't go on like an aul lad or anything, but I do enjoy chatting away to older folk. But then some people who meet me for the first time guess my age as being around 21, so I have no idea really. I feel the same as I did when I was around 21 I suppose. I don't feel old anyway, or young either tbh. I get on well with younger folks too. I suppose my sense of humor is childish at times.

Just bear in mind you will have to bulk up several stone beyond this point. In order to cut down and come in at 15-16 St with a BF of 8%.

Anyway, my Dad used to always say that age is only a state of mind. He was 87 when he died and he would shame us all with his forever young attitude.

How did Zyzz manage to do it? He says he bulked but I never saw a pic of him with a high BF%.
    RIP Brah, miss ya.

33, feel and act a bit younger, too young at times. I'm crippled for 2 days after playing a match which is depressing. I breeze through hangovers though and I have no bother sinking 15 large bottles of strong beer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,955 ✭✭✭Conall Cernach

I'm 39 and feel the same as I have always felt. I don't know if that means I feel any "younger" though. I think I feel younger than many other people of my own age but that could be because of how they feel not how I feel. I don't have any children or a mortgage or any debt and I've never had a serious illness so maybe that has something to do with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,976 ✭✭✭Brendog

I'm 20 years old but I feel younger.

Its a real problem because I don't feel mature at all to be doing a degree.

also when someone asks how old I am I say "20 and 3 quarters"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,762 ✭✭✭✭stupidusername

Just going on 28, and I'm kinda both. I feel older because I feel like I've been here for a lifetime already. But younger because I don't think I'm quite mature enough to be 28. I still have an idea in my head of looking at people around 30 from the age of 15 and thinking you'd be all settled with a child by then, and be in a career. And I'm none of those things, and probably no where near them so, yeah I feel younger.
