Is the late late show formula a bit outdated in the day and age of instant global information tweeter feeds, Fiber optic Broadband ,Satellite TV and Smartphones?

I think it is irrelevant what presenter the Late Late has or will have in the future?

The 'late late' will never ever get the kind of guests that Gaybo was gifted with in the "stoneage" communication era of the 90's.I Don't watch the late late show on a regular basis or listen to his radio show, but I watched his interview of the McCann parents with interest, I thought Tubridy handled that interview good that day.He asked the questions that the majority of people wanted to know , and didn't give these manipulative darlings of the british media the easiest pop quiz , book promoting tour, that they may have thought they deserved

The opposite to that was the Ronan Keating interview , and that he neglected his duty to ask the question that everybody wanted to ask! and he deserved a lambasting for that!

THe problem with the late late show has been the quests , they haven't been great quests like the haydays, when the best actors, personalities, authors had to come on the late late show in order to flog their wares.
THe late late show has been in decline sinceGaybo's era/ modern forms of communication have emerged, hence the quality of quests have declined

In General , will people admit that it doesn't matter what Presenter the late late show has or gets in the future...The late late shows days are numbered in its present format no matter if they get a topless Sharon Ní Bheoláin presenting!

I don't think so. Jonathan Ross and Graham Norton still get top guests and know how to make a good show with them. There are a few things to note however.

Firstly, most people here now do get JR & GN's shows so for a celeb to flog a book, they just have to show up on those shows. Back in the day, watching the UK channels was far harder so the celebs had to make that extra effort to press the flesh here.

Secondly, I believe Gaybo had a bunch of heaveweight celebs he was on good terms with, if not actually personal friends with. Peter Ustinov is a case in point. In that case i think it was always possible for Gaybo to pull an A-Lister out of the bag when pickings were slim whereas now they have to content themselves with grabbing the first Z-lister they find in the canteen to fill a spot.

Thirdly, Tubbs & PK couldn't really do the celeb interviews that well either. Like them or hate them, the likes of Gaybo & Mike Murphy have more professionalism and ability in their little fingers than the likes of Tubbs. Having said that, I only got to see MM & Gaybo in the 80's when they had years of doing what they did behind them but I think that standards were far higher in RTE of old than today and I think that shows up.

In short, the only person I can instantly think of with the intelligence and ability to come close to Gaybo today is Dara O'Brian and, like Eamonn Andrews and Terry Wogan before him, he's headed across the water and we're left with the dross here.
