Why does RTE and RTE2 have absolute crap on tv from 8-11 and all the great and even watchable dramas on at 12 and after.....Mad Men, Castle and Rescue Me were always on after 12.. Tonight alone from 12-1 Brothers and Sisters is on,at 12, Parenthood & Spooks at 1 and Lie to me and the Event at 2.

Because they buy them up to prevent TV 3 getting their mitts on them.
Then they have no time to show some of the shows due to the fact they have to show a certain amount of home-produced programming.
So, Mad Men, Castle, Rescue Me, Parenthood, Spooks, Lie to me, and the Event are given the graveyard shift.
The crutch of the TV licence makes it possible for RTE to continue this "buy 'em up and stick 'em on late" malarky.

TV 3 for the most part sinks or swims on advertising revenue.
RTE does not give a toss to be fair.

TV3 couldn't give a ****e about American television shows. It is an ITV clone and that has nothing to do with RTE or anyone else.

Here is what TV3 do with American tv shows. They were showing The Shield and had one episode left in the series. What did they do? They dumped it from the schedules for some celebrities in a jungle.

That would indeed be awful if Mad Men, Castle, Rescue Me, Parenthood, Spooks, Lie to me, and the Event were on TV 3 instead of RTE like the OP asked about.

Does RTE and RTE2 have absolute crap on tv from 8-11. What programmes for example do you think are crap. I think their programming at that time is pretty ok. I agree that they show a lot of good programmes in the middle of the night but that's what recorders are for.

The Event is of course a repeat and I wouldn't expect it to be on prime time.

I'm rather partial to Australian series and these always get shown late at night but I'd rather that, then they not get shown at all.

RTE will never please all the viewers. There is a lot of crap programmes on but the repeats are worse.

My reply was in response to your nonsense about keeping things off TV3 but ignore that all you want.

I think RTE buy too many shows to have room in their schedule. Also it seems they'll get better ratings with CSI repeats than new shows. 9-11pm is realistically the only slot to show most weekly dramas. Considering how low RTE2 ratings are these days in the Prime Time slots I can only imagine how low the post midnight viewers are though percentage share might be ok.

I'd say good chance they are blocking TV3 but also they might be rushing shows so they get them on air ahead of UK channels (e.g. the 3 Friday night shows).
