Mazda 6 2.0D vs 2.2D

So the 05 Mazda 6 1.8 petrol I have passed the 300,000km mark before chrimbo and I think that maybe this year it's time to put her out to pasture. So looking at the new model 6 and there are plenty of 2.0D about but very few 2.2D around, based on the advice I've seen here the 2.0D is dodgey or are they?

Has anyone a 2.0D that hasn't given grief, should I hold out for a 2.2D?

    Any advice appreciated.

    G

2 fellas at work have the 2.0. One is flying, the other has had the sump fill with diesel. Dunno about the driving habits of the fella that had the problems, so I can't say if it was due to start stop short hop driving. The fella that had no trouble does big mileage.

I don't really know what is exact problem in 2.0 diesel mazda engines, but some mechanics say they are not repairable, so it is basically impossible to get the whole working engine from the scrap yards..

I'd say stick with what you have OP. It's hard to beat a 1.8 petrol Mazda 6 for reliability.

Someone here has a 1.8 Avensis with 378,000 miles (610,000 km) and it's still going strong plus that car has been a taxi from day one, so yours has nothing on it really. If a taxi can do more than double what your car is on, then there's no reason why your car can't keep going for another good few years. A petrol engined 6 is every bit as reliable as an Avensis, in fact I would say it is even more reliable as they don't suffer from gearbox trouble, something an Avensis does suffer from.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

What captainspeed said. OP, your car is worth 3 grand max. I wouldn't think of going diesel and spending thousands unless you do a very high mileage

I don't even think the 05 Mazda 6 is worth €3k given it is petrol and has 300k km on the clock. Two things the Irish don't want these days are petrol engines and anything with 100k or higher on the clock.

If the car is running fine then drive it until it dies, it ows you nothing. You could easily part with it and end up with a lemon.
