Salary Scale Question

Is there any legal binding regarding salary scales? Or can they be disregarded by employer or be contract dependent?

Currently I'm at the top of my scale (3 point scale, not that much:o) earning x amount, as was appropriate for my position and stated in my contract when I started in 2008. Current salary scale figures for same position are now significantly higher (2010/11) according to my union annual report (IMPACT btw).

So basically what I'm asking is should increments on my scale changed in tandem with those as stated by union-or not? Hope that makes sense, thanks:o

I believe that your contract remains the binding agreement.

Unless you are in a role where pay is determined by collective bargaining.

    any idea's?

Depends on the company, they probably can't afford to keep with general standards of wages, ask for a review if your sure it's a possibility, but beware they may take offence if you've high expectations.

Edit: do you not have a yearly review of your contract?

Not in a role determined by collective bargaining to the best of my knowledge. I work in the care sector. Wages are paid by state. My contract simply states I will be paid X amount on X scale with yearly increments pending satisfactory performance. Nothing to say it will take into account any increase etc :( Where do IMPACT pull these figures from?

Oh, and no yearly contract reviews-not a regular practice round these parts

Ahh, your on a pay freeze. Increments laid out in your contract only. Only chance of a pay rise is a promotion starting off another set of increments.
