Hi, i am posting on behalf of my dad and his partner. They are 63 and 62 reflectivly and returned to Ireland from the uk 3yrs ago, dads job finished last year so now claims jsb for them both and she gets £26 a week dla from the uk which is deducted from their jsb, he also gets a small uk pension of £100 a mnth also deducted from his jsb.

They also claim rent allowance and are paid €268 a mnth towards the rent of €500, the rent cap for their area was €425 and has been reduced to €400. Their apartment is nothing special just a 2 bedroom bungalow as she cannot climb stairs due to a number of disabilities including diabetes and takes 24 tablets a day and is unable to walk more than a few hundred yards.

Having looked at the welfare site i am confused as to whether or not they are getting the right benefits and rent allowance so any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

your dad should apply for carers allowance for his partner straight away, his partner should apply for disability allowance. if they are successfull he would get euro204 and she would get euro188. they would probably get fuel allowance 24 weeks of the year euro20 and they would have free travel, a free tv licence free telephone landline or mobile phone credit, and some free units of electricity. good luck.

Thanks, We'll look into it. I've told them to book an appointment at citizens advice as well.
