    Hi guys

Just wondering if you could advise how Id find out what I could realistically hope to make on a signed jersey I have to sell. I'm not very familiar with eBay but think eBay might be the best place to sell it.

The jersey i have is a prize I won. It's a Barcelona jersey signed by Messi. It arrived today, it's not mounted & has no certificate of authentication. Would these be disadvantages to selling it.

If I were to put it on eBay how long should I put the auction for & should I put a reserve. Sorry for all the questions but I've no experience in eBay

    Any tips gratefully appreciated.

Not having any certification or proof is certainly a drawback.

IF you're a first time seller, selling a signed jersey with no authentification, you mightn't even get the price of a jersey.

Could you get something from the raffle organisers to show its real?

I generally leave things on it for a week. Not a huge deal either way IMO. You can either put a low starting price and set a resrve but I'd suggest putting it up at the minimum you'll accept

if it fails to sell, you will still have to pay the insertion fee.

    Thanks for the reply Dodge,

I've emailed the company that I won it off of. Are there recognised companies who provide certification? Or is it enough that the company (who in this case is Easons) were to certify that it's genuine?

There should be no worries about authenticity . - and no need to bring this up in your eBay listing .

You will need to stress the size of the jersey in your listing , as it often happens that buyers receive a size too small and you end up with a claim.

Replica jersies are normally a smaller size than it actually says on the tag .

eg. medium is small - large is medium ( this is because far eastern people are of a smaller stature .

Measure the length of arms and torso and also the width/ chest size .

Also its worth recommending that the jersey is washed in cool water only .

Take your own photograph for eBay and don't use stock photos .

Ensure you say that the jersey is a ' genuine Barcelona jersey signed by Messi .-

It should state somewhere on the jersey that it is authentic

    Thanks for that allthedoyles. :)

The jersey does have an authentic badge. It also still has it labels attached with a price sticker of €80 on it.

Wouldn't have thought of putting in advice of cool washing so thanks!

Well, you would hope that the buyer won't be using the jersey playing soccer in a mucky field .

But if the jersey is washed in high temperatures , it can fade quickly and lose colours , which would certainly result in a claim.

If it was mine , I would try to set up a raffle and sell tickets at say , €5 each .
This would raise more than you could ever expect to receive on eBay .

Note : I see a 2006 signed Messi Jersey on sale on eBay for €400

If you're selling it because of the signature, the jersey is unlikely to be worn and/or washed
