    I'm thinking of buying a 2007 x3 2l diesel. I haven't driven a bmw before and am looking for advice. Also, am wondering about future servicing costs.

    I've done abit of work on them it's the normal 2l td engine.to be fair they don't give bother at all.but my god they are a ugly jeep.if u were to buy one you should buy the x5 as them x3s just look stupid

    Know someone who had a diesel. The turbo went, apparently it is an issue if it is not used regularly on long runs. This one was used mainly around the town

    X5 looks better and is a tiny bit bigger inside - but cheap ones (x3 prices) are natty and on their last legs. Do also factor in the additional tax and associated costs with an extra 999cc
    The X3 has challenging looks but is built okay the 2.0d is used in the 1er, 3er and 5er so the usual issues are there.
    The 2.5i might be a good compromise if your doing lowish mileage. The 2.5 block is quite solid if memory serves be correctly

    Honestly every time I look at an X3 I ask myself if the owner wanted an X5 but the bank manager said no. Such an utterly pointless car.

    A new decently specced X5 3.0d Sport with a few bits on it ran nearly €85,000 (sport pack, leather auto, climate control, side steps, metallic and cd changer)
    An X3 2.0d sport was nearer €65,000 (auto, leather, metallic)

    :eek::eek:

    That really is disturbing.

    Why not buy a well specced 5-Series/massively specced 3-Serieif they were after a good car with a BMW badge or a second hand RR/Land Cruiser Amazon if they want something comfortable with the extra ride height instead or something as inept as the X3?

    Depreciation for one thing adding €20k or so to a five is all lost - X5's at the time were incredibly sought after and there was an 18month waiting list for RHD versions they weren't losing too much and options put on made them more valuable (the standard spec was truly miserable you'll rarely see it).

    The X3 had the badge and for a while anyway values held!

    There are people who've shelled out that much on a soft-roader? :eek:

    Well the list for a base 2.0d with nothing on it was €52,500

    Add delivery €1000

    Metallic €1000

    Base price is nearer €54,500

    Thats for a bog basic car most were se's and above adding €2odd k to the list
