Bass amps

I'm in need of a bass amp. My band has a gig coming up. We only started up a few months ago, and it's our first gig. I was wondering what size and what models would be good. I presume most places have a PA system (the place we'll be playing in does). I'll want it to last me a good while. I don't know how often we'll be playing.

I also play guitar and will want use it with the guitar.

I'm thinking of buying second hand, and my budget is about e200-e300

    Some stuff I've seen includes:
    Trace Elliot 150w(e250)
    Peavey TKO 75w (e150)
    Harley Benton 150w(230)
Marshall MB with a multi effects pedal (wattage not specified, but there's a picture and it's either 60w and 150w)
    Hiwatt Maxwatt 100w (e250)
    Peavey TNT 115 (e250)

I'll look up reviews and demos later. I'm only familiar with Peavey and Marshall. Harley Benton seems dodgy.

    Thanks.

I'll leave it to others to advise on brands. My advice would be on the wattage. If you are going to gig in a small/medium sized venue, then IMO you should be looking at 300 watts.

    Keep an eye on www.adverts.ie

You should be able to pick up an ashdown combo for that money. Nothing less than 300W. That would be the minimum to play along to a drummer and be properly able to hear yourself.

Something like this would be perfect..

You won't be able to get a bass amp you'll be able to play guitar with though, unless you're looking at a big old valve stack.

I mean, you'll be able to play your guitar through it but it will sound completely pants.

As NickWray said, keep the bass amp and the guitar amp separate.

Cabs seem pretty cheap. And I've seen heads for around e200. I haven't done much looking though. Also I don't know much about musical equipment, and I doubt they're valve. How far would you think I'd have to stretch my budget to get something for both guitar and bass? I'd probably save in the long term.

I've got some Markbass gear (see here) and highly recommend it.

Dunno if I'm allowed point to the link in my sig, but it's an option. it's also entirely possible to play guitar through a bass amp, if you have a preamp/preamp modeller like a POD or such it'll sound pretty bang on if you know how to use it.

I've decided that i'll spend more on an amp, about 500euro. Would a stack offer more versatility? And i'll look into mark bass.

a stack may offer more versatility, in that you can mix and match cabs and heads. However, the head/cab option is not better/worse than a combo.
