WAT-BHX-daily flights to be announced tomorrow and NOC-LBA at 3 weekly also to be announced tomorrow.

Aer Arann droped BHX from WAT and Ryanair dropped LBA from NOC.

particularly for waterford, will it be their own craft or Loganair under the franchise deal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,873 ✭✭✭✭Jamie2k9

BHX has only Dash 8 based but I do think daily is to much but if BE have good flights times then the route should do well. Its great news for Waterford. Hope they do well on the route and WAT airprot also say there will be a new route announced besides BHX soon. My guess would be EDI.

Your looking in the wrong direction with EDI. Look South not North, time will tell. :D.

Then a hub in Europe Paris or Amsterdam. Will you just say what you think/know it will be..

I'd say Air2000 hasn't got a clue if Flybe will add a route or not. Just posting form the sake of it. If you know the route then post it.

Na, I'll leave RE make the announcement

It's great news for Waterford. The airport has so much potential. If only they could come up with funding to extend the runway to accommodate standard jet aircraft. It's proximity alone to mainland Europe and UK should be a plus.

Had guessed that as its should be on sale by now and it did bad last summer. So its going to be be replaced by another French route?

Yes its great to see routes like this from waterford but i think we have enough airports with jet service at this stage ! lets make the ones we have at present viable first ! the last thing we need is more debt ridden airports to match our debt ridden everything else

Not in the south-east we don't!

Out of all the regional airports, by far the strongest are Kerry and Knock. Hardly surprising, as they have the runway lengths to handle the 737s that Ryanair use and the A320s that other airlines could potentially have.

Having a longer runway would be a massive bonus for Waterford Airport. Imagine if we didn't pay Anglo's gambling debts on 25 January (1.25 billion or so)? We could build the runway, and a big massive T2 as well!

Kerry and Knock do well yes but at the expence of galway and shannon! We are a tiny counrty with what just over 4 million people ! We really dont need , what 11 airports !! I know we all like to see our local airports doing well ! Im the same but there is not the demand to make every regional airport busy gateways with flights to everywhere as much as i wish there was myself. Large airports in SNN,NOC,ORK,WAT,KIR,DUB would be and over kill if you ask me !

The SE region (near enough half a million people) is the only region in Ireland without a jet-capable airport so there is room for growth without necessarily compromising other airports. It's true that there is probably oversupply in other regions, particularly the west, but that is no justification for stifling the economic development of a region that has lagged the rest of the country for various reasons.

The same argument has been used against the establishment of a University in the SE, when in reality the lack of such has effectively been a large long-running subsidy of other regions by the people of the SE.

Can't see KIR lasting due to the fact of Cork and Shannon been in such close proximity. This of course is assuming that Cork and Shannon becomes much more efficient and self funding. Four or five airports is more than enough for 4 million people.

    I don't think so..
air2000 said that to look south when you mentioned the EDI route.

Someone posted on PPRUNE said that Aer Lingus Regional may be about to open up operations to and from Paris Orly, but doesn't say where from. I presume this may have something to do with earlier posts.
