Does anyone know if its possible to use veg oil in the 3.0 trooper without engine issues? Say a 50/50 mix of veg and diesel?

Not the 3.1 model now. I know it normally works fine in those, but in the 3.0 trooper.

    Peter,
    I run a RR 2.5 on 90% Veg/ 10% petrol.

I've installed a preheater to heat the fuel before the injection pump.

I am going too dual tank it, start on diesel switch over to veg when up to temp and back to diesel before switching off.

I've done over 16,000mls on single tank though....

    Still going strong,
One should change the oil/ fuel filter more regularly though.

    Any more questions, please ask.

    A Range Rover 2.5 diesel?

Can I ask what's the make of the preheater and where you got it? They're for sale on Ebay but not sure of their reputation with veggie drivers.

Is it possible to buy veg oil here in bulk and at what price? Or do you use the Waste Veg Oil and filter it?

Have you had any probs with seals perishing in your fuel system? A common problem I believe with veg usage.

I presume the 10% petrol is to thin the oil and make it flow through pump and injectors better. Have you had any probs with winter usage? Fuel filters getting fatted up etc?

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
The preheater is one of the ebay ones with a coolant circulation built in. I've found the quality quite good, dont think you will have any trouble there.

I buy my Veg oil in bulk from many sources restarants etc, Veg Oil Suppliers can charge 50c for used oil. It needs to be filtered and dewatered.
    All my oil is used.

I've had very little problems with starting. New set of glow plugs and good battery sort most problems.

I have not had any seals fail yet, didnt change anything in the RR either!
The 10% petrol is to thin the veg oil at this time of year. All though I might use it all year round as it is better I reckon well at least until i twin tank it...

    Hi Peter,
If you have a 3.0 trooper thats running nicely, I'd be inclined to try and keep it that way :), very complicated engine. Injectors seem it give a lot of trouble, can't imagine veg oil doing it any good.

    Cheers...

Worked on 3.0 Troopers for about 8 years. I would recommend leaving well enough alone. If it is starting and running consider yourself lucky :o

Is Veg oil really worth all the hassle?

Am a bit wary too to be honest. Any jeep but a 3.0 trooper!

Whether it's worth it in a more general sense, with a different vehicle I think it might be. If you can collect used veg oil for free from chippers and the like and filter/dewater it yourself - not a difficult process - it might be well worth looking at.

Having to buy unused veg oil wouldn't make it economic I think.

What got me thinking of it is the ever rising price of road diesel. I would go through about 1200 litres of diesel in 12 months x €1.50 approx = €1800 per year. And some fellas do much more than that. And I'm not talking about self employed or farmers.

Time maybe to watch out for tidy low mileage 3.1. If any still exist
