Quick question for anyone with DAB in their car - are they still transmitting? My mother's car is showing 'no signal', and I don't want to be making an unnecessary trip to the garage?

Can't say for certain, but I'm pretty sure they are.

They are transmitting. Don't have it in my car, but do in my house out in the wilds. They're transmitting all their 10 digital radio stations over the same network as Saorview TV, so basically country-wide.

Since when has DAB been nationwide? It's not available here even though Saorview works perfectly. Do you have a link to back up your claim?

Which area are you in? There are 2 DAB operators in Ireland, both of which with limited coverage.

The car lives in Sandycove - DAB was always a bit patchy this far out, but recently there's been no signal at all.

I've a DAB stereo in the kitchen and it works fine. I can only get the RTÉ stations but they come in perfect with only a bit of wire plugged into the aerial socket.

Is there a chance there is a problem with your antenna or it's connections?

DAB signal coming in loud and clear as always on the southside.

That's what i'm thinking. The car is still under warranty, I just didn't want to bring it back to be told that DAB transmissions had ceased.:)

A quick update on this: I brought the car to our local BMW dealer, who gave me a copy of a service bulletin from BMW stating that DAB broadcasting in Ireland had ceased in favour of DAB+, and that the DAB radios in cars built prior to 10/2010 would no longer work. I accepted this, and drove off. On my way home I tried once more to retune the radio and, lo and behold, DAB was back!

What you were told is BS but I think you're figured that out already. The RTE MUX is exclusively DAB (i.e. not DAB+), there is a trial in the south-east involving a mix of DAB and DAB+, details here.....

They kept it for a day. Must have known I was missing my Forester, as they gave me a MINI Countryman. The car had a dash rattle that they'd been trying to weasel out of fixing under warranty, and the DAB issue - they fixed the rattle, but told me the radio was now obsolete.

    Absolute BS.
RTE have absolutely no plans to change to DAB+.

Germany has recently shut down DAB and moved to DAB+ however so perhaps BMW should look past their borders. ;)

You quoted my post with 'Absolute BS' below it. Where did I say that RTE were moving to DAB+?

The regional MUX in the link which uses a mix of DAB and DAB+ is a bundle of independent stations which clearly has nothing to do with RTE.

I have a DAB radio in my car (2007 Opel) and its still working anywhere I go north or south side Dublin, and generally further afield too

Coylemj, I was agreeing with your BS assessment not contesting it. ;) I happen to have quite a bit to do with the operation of the regional mux and have plenty of insight into the DAB situation in Ireland. :)
