I currently have a Sony Bravia 37" which I am very happy with but I would like to upgrade now.

I'm thinking of purchasing a Sony Bravia 46" television and I'm wondering if it would be a good purchase or if there are better TVs out there. I'd really appreciate a bit of advice :)

samsyerman.ie Sony 46 nx723 led lcd tv going for £849+20 delivery anywhere in ROI .Saorview, smart tv,corning gorilla glass with opticontrast panel ,100hz x2 3d,wifi certified, premium sony tv compared to the EX723 for build quality. with monolithic style,PLUS all above spec! The EX723 has the same motionflow 200-xr,its a 100hz double scan with every 2nd frame black supposedly to make picture smoother,i think i prefer the 200hz full scan though.I bought a 46hx803 with 5yr warranty printed with reciept online, from them, really excellent customer service online or phone. google them im posting from a ps3 sorry cant give link. John .;) p.s, ask for Reneé,lovely woman to deal with. (hope im allowed say that).

Refresh rate 50hz? Thats not very good.
Head over to the philips shopand get yourself a proper tv or better

Moving images on a 50hz wouldn't be very good.

    Nonsense

The BEST refresh rate is whatever the broadcast is, anything else degrades it. Besides some of the super high refresh / and short lag figures are just marketing hype. Not related to TV viewing.

The most important aspect is Saorview compatibility followed by decent speakers unless you have a Home Theatre system.

LED is just the backlight system. It's LCD.

There are NO 3D TVs or transmissions. It's Stereoscopic TV, a 1/2 HD resolution image for each eye (invented and wide spread in Victorian times with photos). Causes eye strain and doesn't work for nearly 1/5th of people. Canal+ just closed their "so called" 3D service. It's exactly same principle as a toy "viewmaster"

In reality all TVs will be 3D (Stereoscopic) eventually as with Active Glasses it only costs about 50c extra to add the feature. Only "glasses" free so called "3D" cost much more and they have poor viewing angle and locations.

In fairness, TV channels do tend to look better with the 100Hz disabled. Sony calls it Motion Plus, and disabling is better. Can't remember what Samsung call it, but again, better off. There's a funny sort of blur with it enabled IMO.

It only works with true progressive sources (games consoles or film originated DVD/BD on some players). All Broadcast in Ireland /UK apart from a few BBC experiments that crashed some Sony sets are Interlaced 25fps / 50Hz.

whats all this about refresh rates anyway, the op was asking an opinion on getting a 46" tv.The 50hz was a mistake anyway. The entry level sony 3d 46ex723 has mflow xr200,not a 50hz tv,unless the lady was talking about the 46ex524 which doesnt have the 3d option.

The tv which is going reasonable enough, seen as the spec was explained,i thought it helpful to refer to the extras on the nx model,as its selling for a similar price.the spec also refered to build quality hocus pocus...btw 50hz doesnt make it a bad tv,& also buying from the philips shop does make it a good TV does it??

+1 on your 50hz opinion .But isnt active shutter 3D 1080p to each eye at 200fps?I think the passive polarised system uses 1/2 HD for each eye,no?

Sonys version is motionflow 100/200 & 400hz pro on the 2010/11 models.Aliens on bluray is one of the jerkiest movies in straight 1080/24p pure mode, but employ motionflow 200hz pro on smooth or standard,& it totally smoothes the picture flow, without any strange artifacts or blur.Totally stable & vibrant pic.Its not a bd player problem either as the source feeding is a pio bdp lx52 & they are noted for good 1080/24p playback,so imo the motionflow is a must in certain cases.TV channels are blurred compared to hdtv or bluray anyway.
