There are so many money making 'ventures' aimed at couples getting married these days, but for me this one takes the biscuit. Pay 120 euro to watch a dvd and that is supposed to take the place of a pre-marriage course?? well I'm sorry, but nooooo. Pre-marriage courses in the 21st century do NOT involve couples standing up in a group situation and discussing their sex lives or any other part of their relationship for that matter. 'Avalon's' director in yesterday's Sunday Times in my opinion tried to scare couples away from other courses available purely for profit! Sure , do your research, ask around, be informed, but don't be told misleading info about what this company clearly see as their competition.BE informed, be very informed!!

I'd rather waste my money on a book for tenner, I don't like the idea of group courses.

Even if I was the typical Irish á la carte Catholic rather than a secular humanist, I think I'd going down the route of a civil wedding. Weddings are expensive enough without having to pay for pre-marriage courses, letters of freedom, "donations" etc.

we were going to do an avalon course but our priest stopped it in its tracks and gave some reasons why its not accepted.
Seems far more business like than accord etc.

From people in my circle, i.e. 'To marry or not?', those who have done an Accord weekend have given positive feedback, to their own surprise! the other company seems a bit more like a seminar and a bit corporate, then couples getting time to work things out together! The way I see it, if you are intending to marry in a church then what's wrong with who the suggest? we all all a bit too savve to be brainwashed??
