scratched someones car bumper...

I was pulling out of a parking space at school drop-off this morning and just as I pulled clear of the car in front I rubbed against the back of it.

Very light scratch and a mark from my black bumper...I know car scratches and how to buffer them out and what damage needs paint etc (as I bought my car with many scratches already onn it & got rid of them myself over time) so I know this is incredibly minor & will be easily rubbed out....but thats besides the point, I felt like such an idiot as I consider myself a good driver (10 years & no incidents....until today)

...I waited around a few minutes & the person returned...so I told her & she looked at her bumper & said it was ok, I apologised a million times & offered her something for the damage, she refused & said it was ok & we went on our way.

So seeing as she wouldn't accept anything I figured I would purchase a Giftcard as a token of apology...I know my local shopping centre sells the Mastercard giftcards that can be used anywhere...I have 30euro to my name at the moment...I'm not convinced this is enough though, would you see it as an acceptable gesture of apology or should I try save up & give her cash for 'repairs'?

...or give her my insurance details??? I'm not sure how that works seeing as the damage wouldn't cost her much to repair....but I will if that is a better option?

If she didn't ask for your insurance details then forget about it. For god's sake don't give her vouchers, it'll only encourage her.

Just forget about it OP. You apologised, see saw no reason to take things further so that's it.

Well done OP. You've done all you can and she said it was ok.

Just relax and wait for the good karma to come back and help you out somewhere along the line!

Fair play op for being so honest about the whole thing. I was on the receiving end of someones bad parking over Christmas. No one hung around to claim responsibility as you did. Cost me 200 euros to get a paintless dent repair performed on it.

Spend the €30 on yourself for being such a nice person!

Um...thanks everyone for the nice comments!...I guess its how I expect one to respond but my man is always telling me I'm naive in that respect!

I don't want her cutting the evil eye at me across the car park at school drop-off...also she might go home & her man might see things differently or she might change her mind & I guess I don't want that happening either

That has happened to me also, fortunately not as expensive though, but it bugged me when the person didn't hang around!

Luckily there was no dent in her car today though, just a scratch & bumper mark

You were already very apologetic, and she was fine with the situation, can't see any reason for there to be "evil eyes". :)

You were already super nice about the whole situation, id just leave it at that. Fair play to ya OP.

Honestly if it were me and you had stayed around and been so nice it would be an end of the matter for me, no great harm done and you took responsibility. I think you should think that there are other nice people like you around who understand that a minor accident is just that, can happen to anyone and don't hold a grudge.

Someone tapped my bumper before when I only had the car 2 days.

She waiting an hour for me to finish work to tell me. I told her it was ok (it was a TINY little mark) and not to worry.............14 phone calls later I accepted her offer of putting it through the insurance just to get rid of her

    Just walk away OP

This by a million. I've been the victim of a car park hit and run, €800 of damage to my freshly painted car. I tracked the person down and made sure to get every penny immedietly, I was ruthless. Had she told me about it it would have been a different story completely. Fair play OP, well done

Fair play to you for owning up!

Someone scratched the bumper on my 4 month old Audi A4 on Saturday and never bothered to wait around to tell me!

Probably going to cost a couple of hundred to get fixed. Car is only four months old and I mind it like a baby!

I always park carefully to try and avoid this kind of thing.

    GRRRRRR

Good to know there's still decent people out there. Nice one OP. Afew years back, someone hit my parked car and did over €800 worth of damage. Did that person leave a note for me? No chance

Fair play to you OP, I'm fairly sure I hit someones bumper in the work car park today, it appears to have scratches, but there was no one around claiming ownership of the darned car, after I spent half an hour asking various people who owned it.

Am hoping I'll get in tomorrow and said car will be back so I can own up and see how they want to deal with it.

Was a small collision at about 10 mph damage can be easily rectified, but I'd be really annoyed if they had to pay for damage I caused, and having been the victim of a lovely scruff in a public place, I'd feel far better to say it to them.
