Educate Together Galway

    Hello to everyone,

I'm researching primary schools in Galway, hoping to find a place (preferably in a non-denominational or multi-denominational school) for my two children, currently aged three and five.
I would love to get some feedback from parents who have children in either of the two Educate Together schools in Galway.
The school located in Galway city has a long waiting list, which I take as a sign that this is good school. Can anyone share their experience/impression of the school with me?
The other school located in Claregalway is a small rural school. I have only seen it from the outside, but my first impressions weren't positive due to the size of the building and the grounds. I don't want to judge on appearances alone, so if anyone with knowledge of the school can give me some information regarding the level of teaching and atmosphere within the school, I'd be very grateful.

    Many thanks!
    Heidi

No nondenominational primary schools in Ireland. The best way to get a proper "feel" for a school is to make an appt to visit.Don't be too swayed by a building either.

Heidi, there are 3 Educate Together schools in Galway, websites listed below:

    Galway ETNS - http://getns.weebly.com/

    Claregalway ETNS - http://www.claregalwayeducatetogether.ie/index.html

    Kilcolgan ETNS - http://www.kilcolganetns.com/

The best hing to do is contact the schools directly, and pay them a visit. In addition, we have a Start-Up Group in Knocknacarra, where we hope to pen a school in 2013 - http://www.knocknacarraet.com/

    Regards

    Hi Heidi,
Have you had any luck with your research? I too have 2 children aged 3 and 5 and am seriously considering sending them to ET. The one in Kilcolgan is probably most suitable in terms of location. The school has grown incredibly (now 120 pupils) since they started in 2008. They are also waiting on planning permission for a new school building to start some time this year. i was put off when I saw their current premises but if this new building goes ahead i think that it could be great.
I am interested to know your reason for looking for an ET school (if you wish to share, of course). My impression is that it is a contemporary reflection of the world be live in and the idea that kids learn tolerance and acceptance as an inherent part of their schooling is ESSENTIAL to me. Also they seem to favour a more creative approach to learning and skill development.
But I don't actually know of anyone with children in these schools and would love to hear more.

Not possible to make a general judgement on a type of school in this way. No more than anyone can say any type of school is better than other. Schools vary and each school is different.
