    Hi guys,

Rather than having threads here there and everywhere, thought it might be a good idea to have full listings in one thread where everyone can update it regularly. There's actually a hell of a lot on TV now, though tonnes of them are repeats!

    Monday 16th January:
00:00 - Pittsburgh @ Tampa Bay, Setanta Ireland (not live)
01:00 - Houston @ San Antonio (AHL), ESPN America (not live)
03:00 - Charlotte @ Chicago (AHL), ESPN America (not live)
    06:00 - HBO 24/7 Episode 1, Setanta Sports 1
07:00 - Pittsburgh @ Tampa Bay, Setanta Sports 1 (not live)
07:30 - Carolina @ Washington, Setanta Ireland (not live)
15:00 - Pittsburgh @ Tampa Bay, Setanta Sports 1 (not live)
18:00 - Nashville @ NY Islanders, Setanta Sports 1 (live)
21:00 - Colorado @ Phoenix, Setanta Ireland (live)

    Tuesday 17th January:
00:00 - Nashville @ NY Islanders, Setanta Sports 1 (not live)
01:30 - Colorado @ Phoenix, Setanta Ireland (not live)
02:00 - Colorado @ Phoenix, Setanta Sports 1 (not live)
07:00 - Minnesota @ Chicago, Setanta Sports 1 (not live)
12:00 - Nashville @ NY Islanders, Setanta Sports 1 (not live)
19:00 - Colorado @ Phoenix, Setanta Sports 1 (not live)
22:00 - Carolina @ Washington, Setanta Sports 1 (not live)

Coverage still sucks this year :-( NHL gamecenter is the only reliable source unfortunately for us. It seams the NHL are making a quick buck rather than spread the game

could we maybe petition Setanta to try and get NHL on the fly on the schedule perhaps? i mean watching the games is great and all, but i kinda feel something is missing without the intermission reports.. hell, i'd even put up with Don Cherry!
so by having On the Fly it might fill that void, it's always a wealth of statistical information and opinion...

Count me in on the petition. I would happily put up with Don Cherry and his crazy suits.

Sky sports 4 will be showing the UK Elite leauge playoff finals on Sunday.

I know its not, or even close, to the NHL - but should be a good game none the less!

Why did Setanta bother getting the rights for the NHL if they don't show any of the important games? Game 7 of one of the closest series in recent years on tonight it's not on live

Any idea who has the contract this season?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,117 ✭✭✭✭MrJoeSoap

Setanta again. I e-mailed them last week enquiring about what their plans were and got a fairly vague response to say that they have the rights and will be expanding their coverage.

Premier Sports signed a 4 or 5 year deal for the UK which means ESPNA won't get it over there. Which leaves us in a tricky spot as they treat the UK and Ireland as one market usually and are unlikely to separate it for one sport. And they are unlikely to bother getting the rights for our tiny market. So unless Setanta get it then again, I doubt we'll have any. Setanta's coverage was appalling last season. Considering the amount of rubbish they fill their listings with and the amount of repeats they show, I found it very strange how little NHL they did show especially the re-airing of games from the night before Tgat were on in the early hours

We will have coverage from Setanta, but I'd be a bit sceptical as to whether it will be an improvement on last years.

NHL Gamecenter is an absolute gift for anyone who will watch more than 2-3 games a week, or for anyone who wants to follow their team regularly. I bought it last year and have no complaints whatsoever.

This is all dependent on there actually being a season to watch, of course...

Never looked into Gamecentre but I can stream it via the Boxee Box, Is it possible to view games after or is it just live games?

How much does it cost? Ive subscribed to MLB.tv for years now and I just took the plunge and got NFL Gamepass for the first time so I'll be killed if I try and sneak in another subscription

Is there a blackout policy as well?

No blackout policy for people in Ireland. Think it cost around $140, not 100% sure on that but it wasn't too much more/less expensive than that. iPad and iPhone apps. The one thing I wasn't happy with was that the PS3 app wasn't available over here.

Is that a monthly sub or does the whole 140 need to come out at once (Sorry I would check but the site doesnt give any details yet) What Im saying is can I cancel at any time?

I got so fed up of the Setanta coverage last year I just lost complete interest in the NHL! Might give this a go as my hockey blood is bubbling again this year!:D

I'm pretty sure you could pay monthly at the same price, but could be wrong. The season starts roughly the same time as my birthday so I treated myself. You get home and road broadcasts for most matches, though not all stations have coverage between periods.

Im extra tempted by this as I have the apple tv thingy which is great for MLB so I'd imagine it's the same for this. The devil on one shoulder is arguing with the angel on the other so we'll see who wins out

Same here, half tempted to get this! Im not paying UPC €15 so I can get a half arsed attempt at NHL on Setanta Sports 1! Maybe they might switch it to SI HD will wait and see. If they dont I might aswell treat myself too! I never used to watch the games until the next day anyway bar the odd Friday adn Saturday night games.

Is it possible so to watch the same team every day/week? ie I can pick which games I want to watch? or is it chosen for me?

Again sorry for the blatant stupid questions just finding it hard to find the answers online!
Going to stream this vai Boxee Box so that last question is the clincher for me!

Is it possible so to watch the same team every day/week? ie I can pick which games I want to watch? or is it chosen for me?

You can watch any game, any time, live or non-live. If there are 10 games at the same time, you can watch any of them. In fact you can watch one with another one in-picture, or you can split four different games across your screen and chose which commentary you want.

If you follow a specific team (i.e. - myself with the Penguins) you can watch all their games live, with their own commentary team. Another small thing that annoys me about it somewhat is that once the game is over and you want to watch it, say the following day or whatever, the link that you have to click on has the score in it. So if you can't stay up late to watch it live you have to be very crafty to avoid ruining the surprise. But it is possible, just about. Hopefully they'll have copped on to that this year and sorted it.

Sorry for the poor picture quality, but this was what it looked like for me last season:

    67009_444665792425_7872494_n.jpg

Might have some better photo's somewhere, will have a look later.

Quality, you may have twisted my arm. On the Boxee gamecentre there is an option to hide scores for highlights, hopefully they have the same for full games!

Just make 100% sure that it works with Boxee over here, as there could possibly be a similar issue that a lot of people had with accessing NHL Gamecenter through the PS3 last year. I'm not very familiar with Boxee but always better to ask the question before you hand over the cash.

And make sure you wait until you're sure we have a season to watch before you do anything!

Yeah I have the unblockus DNS set up anyway so shouldnt be an issue, there is a 5 day money back anyway if it doesnt! Wont be signing up until after Game 1 anyway just to be sure! Cheers for all the info pal! Much appreciated!

No sign of any information in relation to NHL coverage on Setanta at the moment. The NHL page looks bleak and neglected.

I see Sky are showing NBA games now, would be delighted if the took the NHL as well.

Premier Sports have the NHL rights in the UK for the next 4-5 years so they won't be on Sky unfortunately. PS are owned by the guy who set up Setanta which is probably why we ended up with Setanta having the Irish rights.

I'm awaiting an update on the GameCenter package on NHL.com

It was absolutely invaluable last year, the television coverage was awful for the most part.

Interesting to see if Setanta's is any better this year. If they had the analysis between periods and they stuck to the US tv advert schedule, I would be happy. HNIC would be a welcome bonus.

Otherwise it'll be the latest installments of "In Depth with Graham Bensinger" over and over again.

As we're getting half a season, do you reckon the price will be roughly half the full cost or will there will a discount to make it up to the fans? How much was it for the full season last year by the way?

It cost €120 for the full 2011-2012 season, which included playoffs from what I remember. I'd hope they'll have some sort of an offer to entice fans back, there is (rightly) an awful lot of bad feeling towards the league and teams after the lockout. But I wouldn't be surprised if they went pro-rata and charged for the 48 games.

I read the Penguins statement to the fans earlier today and it was grovelling of the highest order, they're obviously worried their 5 season streak of sellouts may be at risk.

I got ticket mails from the Rangers too. Getting the word out about upcoming ticket sales for games. Full of really OTT praise for your "amazing" support etc. With the Knicks going so well and the baseball season only a few months away, I'd say they are worried about ticket sales. A fair few on the Rangers forums are not going this season with lads offering their season tickets for rental per game.

I've heard talk that Gamecenter Live could be free this year as a way to entice fans back.
If it is I wonder if it'll be worldwide or just for the U.S and Canada

I can't see that working, considering that US/Canadian fans are primarily threatening to watch the games at home / the pub and therefore avoid giving money directly to the clubs. I would say Gamecenter will be charged at a similar rate to last year.

I mailed Setanta about their coverage this evening. I also asked about a promotional code for people joining for the NHL. Last year we got the first 3 months half price. I will report back when they respond.

Whats everyone on here doing for the upcoming season?

Is it worth signing up for Setanta? Some guys on here were saying that they dont even show Coach's Corner or Hot Stove? Is that true? I'm a fan of Don Cherry so that would piss me off.

If i sign up for Gamecentre will i then be able to watch HNIC from start to finish and will any games be blacked out over here?

And hockey streams? Sounds good put whats the quality like and is it legal?

I'm very excited about the new season but they really don't make it easy for European fans to get their hockey fill.

    Any advice here greatly appreciated.

Gamecenter is the only legal stream, and I swear by it. I can't remember for certain if it had Hockey Night in Canada last year, because I tended to watch those on TV.

I'm just waiting for some sort of announcement / pricing for Gamecenter for 2013 before I make a decision. Haven't heard of any of the UPC TV channels showing the NHL this year, at this point.

I mailed Setanta looking for confirmation regarding coverage but I got no reply. I just checked the listings and they have NHL marked on the schedule on Saturday night but there are no game details, so it could be a repeat from last season. I'll give them a call and ask them.

Edit : I called them and was told to drop customer services an email, as they are unsure whether or not they will be covering it this season. Customer services are not in the office today!

The price for Gamecenter Live is up on the website now.
It costs 49.99 us dollars so works out at around 37.50 euro.

As far as I remember for some of the cbc intermissions weren't shown, so there wasn't any coach's corner available. only ones i remember were CSN, TSN and NBC broadcasts had any intermission showings

That is genuinely fantastic value. For access to 720 live regular season games and the playoffs, you'd be mad not to get it. Even for just the regular season, it is 99 days of constant hockey.

From the T&C's it does state:
As discussed above, nationally televised games broadcast in your country or programming area will be blacked out and not available for viewing on NHL GameCenter LIVE. Accordingly, NHL GameCenter LIVE will not include access to any NHL playoffgames (including the Stanley Cup Finals) that are being televised nationally in your country or programming area. For more information about NHL GameCenter LIVE, please go to http://gamecenter.nhl.com/nhlgc/help.htm

But I'm 99% sure that all the games last season that were shown on Irish television were also on Gamecenter. In fact, I've never seen a blackout on any game on Gamecenter.
