id love to play my saxophone more but with my work hours plus the fact we have small children dont get enough time , would it be possable to make shed soundproof? id imagine theres loads of musicians , ie drummers/ guitar players who would love to do this plus chuck out all that crap and make a nice room for sweet music , any ideas

Move the wife & kids out to the shed, then you've a lovely warm house to play your music in & the last thing the family will be worried about is the noise.

This reminds me of the short story "Nocturne" in the eponymous compilation by Kazuo Ishiguro.

You could always just use a Sax mute... Quite a bit easier than soundproofing an entire room.

yeh i was thinking of materiels that could be used on a wooden shed ,would make it hard to make it totally soundproof so if i used a mute it would kill 50% of the noise, i was hoping some nice people on here would know stuff materiels i could use , i know it would be easier if it was a brick shed.

Yeah, just DIY it. Carpet + Egg boxes are a great method.

Very strange you should mention it. I'm moving to a new house soon and today I was looking at the shed and thinking ''New Music studio''.

So yes go ahead and get some eggboxes and duvets. Another thing is to go and practice your sax for half an hour then rap on your neighbours door and say ''Does that annoy you? did you hear me play ma sax? Is it grating your cheese? if so I'm sorry and will try to tone it down.''

Why did you end the sentence with a comma? It looks stupid,

Acoustic insulation might be what you're after. Maybe ask the question in the Construction & Planning forum. A quick google threw up this site for example - https://www.soundinsulation.ie/ - panels seem expensive enough given that you will probably need quite a few but don't know what your budget is for this...

Assuming you got a car - drive somewhere where you wont annoy anyone, push the seat back, stick on the heater the odd time and play all you like.

It's 'hobby'. Oh, and I think your keyboard is missing its comma and shift keys.

Duvets, carpet, egg cartons and foam will NOT help with soundproofing.

Sound treating( making a room sound good) and sound proofing ( making sound in that room harder to hear outside) are two very different things and often mistaken from each other.

The best you can do is to make sure there's no areas where the sound can escape- areas like around a door, windows, join of the ceiling and walls, etc...

If you find it's unacceptably loud you might have to build a well constructed booth within the shed that has thick walls (all building materials have a sound rating, some materials are better than others) and possibly decouple the floor as best you can of the booth from the actual shed floor.

The very best soundproofing is to build a room within a room, and have the inside room not touch off any part of the outer room. Difficult and very expensive.
