any recomendations for a car for about the 6 grand mark..
needs to be diesel and would like at least 120bhp and 6speed if possible.
something comfortable, reliable and good looking with a good few toys :D. nothing modified/lowered/big alloys etc

    3 series bmws are out!!

2.0l or under or a very good deal if over the 2l mark.

oh ya no estates or wagons or whatever they call them now!!

There was one on donedeal recently for around that. They don't sell as well as they should so you can always haggle a bit;)

ya guess so!! what kind of power do they put out? savage looking car.. would love one of the big petrol ones but cant afford to run it..

i heard the diesels are reliable enough? do they give much bother after that?
my sister in law use to work for a dealer and she said a lot of them came back under warentey

120 and 150 1.9, no hope of a 2.4 in budget. 150s give swirl flap issues, otherwise seems to be normal diesel issues that can be avoided for the most part if you understand them.

Dark colour, light interior - savage.

X type is 5 speed on the 2.0 I think. Uncle had one. Felt slower than a Mondeo 130 I was driving at the same time

The two cars are strongly related.

What about an MG ZT diesel?

    Is the Leon gone?!?

I would not leave the Jag being a 5 speed be a deal breaker.

Yep, the 130bhp one, when I was a rep one of the directors got one new, nice buses.

New Leon? A 2.0tdi is reliable enough and prices are dropping in the UK. For a while they were more expensive than a Golf.

Admittedly it is slightly over budget :o but still they can be had for around €7k, retrofit a leather interior to the one above and it's a nice car.

nice but way out of budget

Slightly leggy, nothing special about the spec. Retrofit (secondhand) leather and a sizable discount will still have that about €2k over budget.

And that's before someone mentions the DL registered craic...

Ah I know, it isn't the best example alright, just wanted to show that if you are lucky you can get that cracking engine for not a whole pile of cash... :)

That's a rare car on these shores, and pretty sure it's an import too. I can't see any possibility of getting a fresh, decently specced 2.4 for close on budget. I know you like them but that's just not realistic right now. Some variable has to give to get one and this time it's price, a little mileage and a good history check.

Plenty more decent engines for that budget too.
